Default Would you support Rainbow on Hockey Unis for Sochi?

Building off of the 'Should we boycott Sochi' thread...I was curious about whether CP'ers would support Hockey Canada if the Men's and Womens team wore a rainbow patch on their jerseys? Of course as a declaration of support for LBGT issues...but also as a FU to Putin who is, unquestionably a bully. And anything to knock bullies down a few notches is ok in my book.

So would you be for or against this idea? (Assume that the players on the Women's and Men's Teams are ok with it for the sake of the thread).

Seriously, let sports be sports. Why make a bigger issue? So no!

The rainbow colours, are the colours for pro gay rights. Does not mean much if they go out there with a black patch that nobody understands.

Personally, I believe that if the Olympics really stood for what they claim... they;d wouldn't go at all... I don't see that happening though, too much money at stake already.

I hope many athletes boycott. That's a REAL tough one for an athlete that does everything to get to the Olympics. For NHLers, perhaps it will happen where players back out due to this issue.

Why make a bigger issue? Because standing up for the rights of those that are oppressed is the right thing to do

I vote for ass-less chaps instead of regular hockey pants. Make a real statement.

Exactly, why ever make things a bigger issue?

...and yes, I'd support that, and be really proud to see it.

It's a moot question because the IOC will never allow it.

Or we could just decide to respect the decisions of other sovereign nations to govern themselves as they see fit. We have as much right to tell Putin how to run his country as Putin has to tell us how to run ours. The kind of change that matters has to come from within, and it has to happen naturally. Pressuring people to change only gets external results while seeding internal resentment and hostility.

How about, for the sake of all the men and women who have dedicated their entire lives to get to these events, we allow the Olympics to just be about the people competing in them.

Or likely will the IIHF. Canada couldn't use the Hockey Canada logo (along with the requisite faux outrage from Nicholson)in 2010, I hardly think that, unless all the countries use it (good luck getting the Russians to add it), the IIHF wouldn't allow anything added to jerseys, nevermind something political.

Just as Canadian teams or any world teams didn't explicitly protest all the (and can be argued, much more harsh and widespread than this issue) human rights violations the Chinese Government condones and actively participates in, in 2008, I would say this follows the same guidelines.

Although, I personally think it would be hilarious if we did this and the Russians threw Sidney Crosby into the gulag for "promoting gay propaganda" right before a big quarter-final match-up.

Valid points, however the question isn't whether or not it would be allowed...it's to see whether hard core hockey fans are supportive of the idea.

Today, many thousands of people across the planet will die from starvation, disease and savage violence.

I think there are a multitude of issues to grandstand for at the Olympics that are much more serious than the decision of one sovereign nation to ban gay parades.

I wouldn't want it on there if given the choice. I don't think that it would do much if anything at all to raise awareness or change anyone's mind, but I also wouldn't care too much if it was there.

I don't disagree...but the existence of a bigger problem doesn't mean that working on a smaller problem is a bad idea...they aren't mutually exclusive

And there is no doubt that there are WAY more serious issues facing humans on the planet.
