One of the local radio stations that my mom listened to in the car would run this promotion every morning where they would go to a local gas station and "mug" people. I was always confused as to why people would be voluntarily showing up to be mugged and why a radio station would be doing, and promoting it. Whole thing was very concerning to me. Turns out they were giving away coffee mugs...mugging.
8 years old is a confusing time.

In the early 1970s when we heard about guerillas in the news, I thought they were talking about gorillas. Like Battle For The Planet Of The Apes. Eventually Mom explained to me the difference.

Kristy McNichol, Olivia Newton John and Deborah Harry were the most beautiful women on the planet. Actually, that's not ridiculous. I stand by that.

I used to have wallpaper in my room with various train engines on it. I was under the belief that each individual train had a miniature 70's style, white jumpsuit wearing Vegas era Elvis living in it, and those Elvis's guitars shot bullets out of the neck like a machine gun as they strummed the notes.

Kissing a boy could get me pregnant. I spent a lot of time after 'Spin the Bottle' parties thinking I was pregnant at 12, 13. Oh, and that I was going to hell for it. |

Haha. I thought the same thing about "euthanasia" when it was in the news. I thought they were talking about "youth in Asia".

I also used to think people were a lot meaner then they actually were. I may have just been very sensitive as a kid. Usually it was just people looking out for you, but I always interpreted it as meanness.

When I was about 3 or 4 the family and I just came back from a camping trip. Dad had taught me that it was ok to pee in the bush when outdoors. Well, the first thing I did when we got back was 'water' the garden for the neighbours to see...

I thought COSCO railway cargo containers were for COSTCO stores. I always thought they really do sell a lot of stuff at COSTCO and it made sense in my head since those warehouses are stocked to the roof. Finally years down the road I realized that the containers didn't have a T in the spelling and that it was a shipping company and not the store.

That smoking a bowl somehow involved a cereal bowl with weed in it and setting it ablaze like a campfire, filling the room with smoke. I couldn't understand why you'd want to do that.

Thought the Flames played on the roof of the Saddledome.
Thought all Flames games were played in Calgary and they just picked what jersey to where at random.
