Judging a player by his name and not by his performance on the ice is silly. Sounds like something a girl fan would do no offence

Truth. You would think with names like Nieuwendyk, Miika, Jarome, Theoren being commonplace that we might be a bit more accepting, but hot damn you put an extra C in banks?!? Heresy.

A restricted free agent... who has been given a QO.

Pretty sure Subban was called a hold out last year.

Really? Pro-tip: if you have to append 'no offence' after you say something, just don't say it.

Those are all weird names to begin with, with many different spellings. Banks is already a word and it doesn't have a C in it. It looks strange and is off putting, and I don't want it around this team.

What's everyones thoughts on an Alaskan based affiliate? I realize it's ECHL, but I can't imagine the possibility of being assigned way up north helps the organizations "appeal" factor to potential prospects we may want to sign.

Players that are looking to sign minor league deals are looking for icetime - the city would be irrelevant in almost every case.

And it's not like the list of cities with ECHL teams comes across like a tour package for foreigners wanting to see NA.

I really hope any potential prospects we may want to sign don't have any intention of ever playing in the ECHL. We might have one of our real prospects there this year (Broisset) simply because we got lot's of goalies under contract but for the most part if we sign anyone of quality they're not going there unless something bad happens.

Personally, I look at it as another incentive for the young guys to play well. If the NHL is the Carrot, Alaska is the Stick.

Anchorage actually has slightly warmer winters than Calgary. The extremely short daylight hours would be a drag, of course, but not much worse than Stockholm, St. Petersburg, or Helsinki. The real problem with being 'way up north' is the travel. The ECHL seems to have that worked out OK, since the Aces have been in Anchorage for 24 years now.

Anyway, I doubt the average prospect thinks twice about the location of the franchise's ECHL affiliate. Getting demoted to the ECHL is the hockey equivalent of Siberia, no matter where the team plays. Any prospect worth his salt will be focused on making the NHL, not on getting sent down.

That's Olympic-sized ice. Wonder why they made the decision to build that? Interesting at any rate.... I wonder if we send a goalie down there, will the size of the ice hamper (or help?) their development? The angles and puck-retrieval plays are completely different for goalies.
