I'd be ok with that, Krahn is solid whenever the Fan has him on.

That sucks dude, life is hard.

IIRC when he was playing for the Flames affiliate in Omaha he would often go up to the broadcast booth if he wasn't dressed and help out with the broadcasts. Not sure what he's been up to the past couple years, but it's plausible to me as he did show an interest in broadcasting going back to his playing days.

If Krahn gets the job, I hope they announce the tandem as "The Hall of Fame voice of the Calgary Flames Peter Maher, and 2000 first round draft pick Brent Krahn."

I think the tv broadcast is terrible. Kerr is a great radio guy but he doesnt add to the broadcast when he gets excited, its just annoying. aside from his funny quirkyness (snowballs lol) he's like nails on a chalkboard

Charlie simmer doesnt add anything either. he just, as others above had said, repeats Kerr and recaps plays. the only thing he does well is point out how players need to keep their feet moving every 10 seconds

Nothing in there implies that an individual has to have personal experience (ie. playing NHL hockey) in order to have gained an understanding of the game. A former player/coach would have a very specific insight from a player/coach point of view but that does not mean they are the only ones to have insight of the game.

I appreciate the rigid thinking that "this is how it has already been done so this is how it must continue to be done" but with the rebuild and everything else going on around the Flames, I am feeling a bit more open minded than that. If we can find a good radio personality that happens to know a lot about hockey and can make the broadcast more entertaining then I don't care if they have first hand experience as an NHL player.

I've never paid much attention to the roles of PBP vs. Color analyst. I certainly never thought that if you did one you could never be the other. All I do know is that Peter Maher has some really big shoes to fill and I would rather ease in the new guy than have PM retire one summer and leave us all feeling dazed and confused listening to some strange new voice.

ya well...its stlll going to be an ex player or coach.....which it should.

You do have to wonder how long Maher has left.

Distincitve, familar and legendary voice for Flames fans, but clearly, time catches up to him sometimes. A new sidekick will have to adapt to him, and vice versa...Rogers, more and more in the past years, seemed to make sure he knew where and when and how to fill in the gaps, and explain things a bit more clearer then Peter (due to the nature of pbp, sure, to a point) on the original call.

Although that is all part of the uniqueness and charcter of any broadcaster, it likely doesn't go unnoticed by his bosses.

I heard him on the Fan960 this morning, and I think he would be a good option. He is enthusiastic, has the gift of the gab, and has played in the WHL, AHL and NHL. He was a first round draft pick of the Flames and knows the organization.
