yea, saw that, and the NFL has some tough times ahead as it tries to balance safety with screwing around with the rules enough that it removes fan interest and creates unintended consequences like Keller's hit.

Players are just too big and fast to handle the collisions that now exist in the NFL. If you watch ball from the 80's or even 90's the game is so slow compared to now. Further players never practice live anymore which takes away from fundamentals and you can see that on the field now, especially with how they tackle.

I'm also worried that people will start to draw away from the sport as it tries to rid itself of one of the very things that make it popular.

A terrific article and some good insight into the mind of a football player who simply cannot let the game go...yet.

Nick Collins was a massive loss for the Packers and their defense simply hasnt been anywhere near the same since he was injured. A guy who was on a trac to being one of the best of all time at his position, cut short by a freak accident.

Quote:
He was just 28 when he was injured. He had made three straight Pro Bowls and helped the Packers win Super Bowl XLV over the Pittsburgh Steelers seven months earlier. He also had signed a three-year contract extension before the 2010 season worth $23.4 million, with $14 million being paid that year.

Then, in one moment, it was over.

Von Miller's suspension for violation of the league's substance policy is expected to be at least six games, per sources.

The Chiefs on Monday gave up on Jon Baldwin, their first-round draft pick in 2011. They traded him to the San Francisco 49ers for another disappointing wide receiver who is also a former first-round draft pick, A.J. Jenkins.
http://www.kansascity.com/2013/08/19...#storylink=cpy

Even with how thin the 49ers were at WR last year, and how they had hoped an off season would bring Jenkins up to speed, he never earned the staff's trust.

Waste of a 1st rounder.

The life and times of Von Miller...

Quote:
The strange circumstances surrounding Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller kept piling up Monday afternoon as it emerged that he may be called as a witness in a horrific murder case.

Miller could be asked to testify in the death penalty case against Dexter Lewis, who allegedly stabbed five people to death and set fire to Fero’s Bar in October of 2012, the Broncos organization confirmed Monday evening.

“We’ve been aware that (Miller’s) name appears on a potential witness list, but he has zero direct involvement in this case,” the team told FOX31 Denver.

Miller’s name is listed among more than 100 potential witnesses in the case. He appears to be a possible acquaintance of Lewis, but there is no indication he had any other involvement, The Denver Post reported.

Both guys were not very good in the game Friday night. Baldwin has Raider type measurables, but can't seem to do anything in game situations. Got himself in trouble by picking a fight with Thomas Jones in his first training camp, and never got himself on track. If the Niners can harness the talent they will get a player out of this. No doubt both guys need a kick in the arse.

I saw the San Fran second team defence looked like the 85 Bears against the Chiefs starting offence....yet another wasted season for Chief fans by the looks of it. San Franz backups are better than KC's starters.

I don't think him being a witness to a murder says something is wrong with him. There are 100 people on that witness list. By your logic, that means 100 people having something wrong with them.

No...this is on the heels of other incidents. Like he is facing a 6 game suspension right now.....then gets arrested at the teams facilities for failing to deal with a previous incident.

Its just another red flag that cannot be ignored....it happens to so many of them, it simply cant be cast off as a one-off. Im cheering for the guy, believe me, but this movie has played out repeatedly, in the NFL in particular, that you have to be very leery of it all.

Looking for some advice here...I've only been to one NFL game and I sat in the upper bowl, one of the highest rows, around the 40 yard line, it was great for watching the whole game and seeing plays develop.

I'm looking to buy tickets at Heinz Field for a game this year, and I noticed for the same price as the upper deck on the 40 yard line, you can sit lower bowl behind the end zone. Obviously this would limit your view, but you're also much closer to the action. Has anyone sat in that area before? Can you comment on how good/bad it was and what you would recommend?

My preference would be higher up on the 40 yard line. The end zone can be more exciting, but when a team is driving towards the other end zone good luck in figuring out what the hell is going on.

Just read this little tidbit about Matthew Stafford...stunning really.

"For his career, Stafford is just 1-22 against teams that finished the season with a winning record. His only win came in Week 8 of last season against the Seahawks

It is in fact 6 games for Miller...

Quote:
After being notified of the decision, Miller released a statement saying "although my suspension doesn't result from a positive test, there is no excuse for my violations of the rules."

"I made mistakes and my suspension has hurt my team, Broncos fans, and myself," he said. "I am especially sorry for the effect of my bad decisions on others. I will not make the same mistakes about adhering to the policy in the future. During my time off the field, I will work tirelessly and focus exclusively on remaining in peak shape. I look forward to contributing immediately upon my return to the field and bringing a championship back to the people of Denver."

We don't know how or why he is a witness. Unless you know something I don't.

Lots of people miss court dates every day, he should know better and it might be a red flag but I really don't see how him being a witness means a red flag.

Vick named starting QB in Philly. I know its really no surprise considering Chip Kelley was always going to want a really mobile guy as his starter and likely bringing some of his run option and gimmickery from Oregon, but i dont know how any Eagle fan can be liking this idea.

In the last 2 years with Vick at the helm...he has started 23 games...thrown 24 INT's, fumbled an additional 21 times while having a record of 10-13.

Ugly stuff.

Right...thats my point, thank you. He was at the club where a guy took the lives of 5 others and knew the guy beforehand from what i understand. That by itself is no big concern...its when you add being on the substance abuse/drug intervention list as a rookie...then commiting some sort of infraction agregious enough to get a 6 game suspension once you violate that program when most are 4 games the first time...and then there is getting arrested for missing a court date (responsible people dont do that).

This movie has played out so many times before....incident after incident after incident...always explained away as being a solitary thing in and of its own, but then down the road...BOOM...and the guy is what it appeared to be.

I just hope this is it for him..as a player i believe he is the best in the business at his position. I love watching the Broncos only because of him, as otherwise i couldn't find a compelling reason too. Im Peytoned out. Like I said..im cheering for the guy, just very very leery about him now.

Antonio Smith suspended for the rest of the pre-season and week 1 for ripping off Richie Incognito's helmet and swinging it at his head. Seeing as it was Incognito it was likely deserved, but either way that's something that has to be a suspension.

Not a fan of neither Miller or Dumervil being around to start the season. I'm assuming Shaun Phillips will fill in for him, which I'm fine with. I'm just happy he's not with San Diego anymore

Someone's going to need to step up. As long as Wolfes neck is fine, I could see this season being big for him. I liked how Ayers progressed last season as well
