I do sort of agree, it feels like we're missing parts of the story. Seems a bit like much ado about nothing. My post was probably a little pre-emptive.

It's not so much that Kipper has even asked to mull it over, but Feaster is giving him that chance anyway.
Feaster has said that Kipper has told him he's not going to play next season. Feaster went out and acquired goalies to play in Calgary next season under the assumption that Kipper won't play next season. Feaster has also said that guys have been known to change their minds when the end of August rolls around and training camps start up, so he is in no hurry to force Kipper to make a final decision.
At the end of the day, it doesn't really change anything if Kipper files his retirement papers now or 3 months from now. Obviously, if he does say he wants to play one more season, but only if it's in Calgary, that will change Feaster's plan, but if he's hanging them up, it doesn't matter when it becomes official.
I found it interesting that Millions tweeted on Wednesday that whether he retires or not, the Kiprusoff family will be returning to Calgary in the fall after spending the summer in Finland: https://twitter.com/RogMillions/stat...07494585384963. So, it's not like he fled away in the night and we'll never hear from him again. It will just mean that the Flames Alumni team just got a hell of a lot better between the pipes.

So, if someone is wealthy, we shouldn't care if their home - possessions and memories - are destroyed in a flood they have no control over?
Newsflash, all those people in Bowness flooded out aren't poor and on welfare. A friend of mine spent a day working at a house in Bowness with an indoor pool and called the house opulent. Doesn't mean they weren't distraught or sad to lose so much of their lives.
Mother Nature doesn't care if you're poor or a billionaire in these situations.
We're all human beings and should have some humanity.

I didn't think so. I think this is strange.
I wonder if he's coming back after all. Sign and trade or trade deadline possibility?

I think the Flames just don't want him to change his mind later. If he is going to keep playing they want him to be under contract with them (likely so they have the ability to trade him). This is especially true because this year he has a low salary/high cap hit contract which can be very attractive to some teams.
So they will probably wait until training camp and if he still doesn't want to come back, they will announce it and file the papers then. From what I've read he will continue to live in Calgary during the season anyway, so the Flames will probably sit down and talk to him when he comes back.
I've also noticed that if he does retire, the Flames will have a huge amount of cap room this season (~$14 million).

Hopefully he makes up his mind soon and just retires. If he wants to play another season he should have taken a trade months ago.

I wouldn't mind either way. Of course another year of kipper would be great for attending the games and help a group of youngsters grow and have confidence to go out there and not be afraid every mistake ends up in the back of their own net.
On the other hand, if Kipper is back and is the starter for most of the year. All this talk about the group of goalies we have now is all for not and we delay the transition by another year.

The thing is with Kipper back, he could actually play a reduced schedule this year with the low expectations. Lot's of chance for one of the other Goalies to shine.

with kipper's .882 sv% last season, that's pretty much exactly what happened in most games he played. if he were to come back for another full season he'd likely be a little bit better than that, but to think he would be able to bail out the younglings on an even semi-regular basis could be hoping for too much.
given his age and reputation for not being the hardest off-season trainer, I really doubt he could have much of a bounce back year.

The longer this goes on, the more I think Kipper will be back.

If he's decided he's coming back, hopefully he'll be honouring his contract and not coming back "under select circumstances".

Like Ace said, would be a perfect season to pass the torch. Low salary and loads of cap room, low expectations and less pressure. He's fun to watch when he's on his game.
I just hope that, if he plays another year, he retires afterwards and doesn't come back with another team ala *cough* Sundin *cough*

Last we heard, he WAS retiring. The only rumour here is that he might come back, but as it stands now, he has said he is retired.

Until the Flames make the announcement it's just a Rumour IMO. There is nothing Official.

There, I changed it. I didn't actually start this thread, it was taken out of another one.

Forgive me if this been discussed at length, but I recall it being mentioned from reputable sources that Kipper is returning to Calgary to live regardless of whether he plays- for schooling reasons etc. I was very surprised at that.
