Matthew Lombardi signs in Switzerland

The HC Servette Geneva could increase with another player in the NHL. The 31-year-old Canadian Matthew Lombardi will be come to the attention of Chris McSorley. Lombardi was traded in last season from Phoenix to Anaheim, where he completed 7 games. He would have been the second player would encounter in a very short time from the NHL to the Grenats after the commitment by Lennart Petrell.

Best of luck to Lombo!
He's has had a tough run of luck with injuries, but he's a likeable guy. If only he had the hands to match his speed, he could have been a hell of a player.

He was the 1st line centre for two different playoff teams, I'd say he was a hell of a player.
If not for his injuries, I'd say he'd still be better than any centreman currently on the Flames.
Best of luck wherever he ends up.

about 3 weeks until main camps open and there are still 100+ UFAs available. We will be hearing many more players going overseas soon rather than waiting and hoping for a training camp invite and tryout

He definitely wasn't the same player in his handful of games in PHX last year.

Always had world class speed but didn't have the hands to really put it to good use.

Has he lost a step or just doesn't want to go into the corners anymore?

In hindsight I wish we would have kept him over Jokinen. IMO when he was traded along with Prust, the window to win closed pretty darn fast after that. I think he could have continued to be a great 2nd line center for us.

I was sad to see him go, but I still think trading him for Jokinen was absolutely the right move. It didn't work out in the end, but the team had a better shot at a cup with Jokinen on the first line than it did with Lombardi.

He could be a very good player in Europe. Living in Switzerland will be sweet too.

I thought the trade for Jokinen was the right move and I do not agree that Lombardi could have kept playing at a higher level with us than with another team. The injuries had obviously taken their toll on him.
I do wish we had kept Prust though... but this isn't the place for that.
Hopefully the Switz league will work out for Lombardi. Good luck!

Oh man, I still remember when Olli scored two goals in his first game as a Flame against Philly. Too bad he couldn't keep that chemistry and become that #1 C we needed at the time. But for one game at least, we had one

I will always remember the shift in the playoffs when Lombo blocked something like three shots in a row. By the time he hobbled to the bench veterans like Iginla were standing and waiting to tap him on the head for a job well done. Great moment.

Too bad we couldn't see him, at his full potential, when he was heading there... He was never the same after that incident. I hope the worst for Hatcher, karma will find you.
