The router did greatly improve the wifi signal throughout my house. I haven't done a speed test, but areas of my home where I was getting 0-1 bars of wifi on my phone (out of 4) I now get between 2 and 3. Not bad for a $30 fix.

Finally got around to bridging my Shaw modem to the new DIR-645.
Speeds on the main floor got a touch faster, but the upstairs (especially the bonus room) still has a really slow connection.

I wonder if I hook up the modem and router upstairs, will I be able to maintain the speeds through out the house? Stay tuned...

As the Shaw tech did say that WiFi signals are like an umbrella broadcast.

Another thing to consider is router placement. If you put it in the basement, like I do, try and find an area with as little duct work as possible. I believe duct work can shield the signal a bit. The rep is right on umbrella concept though.

I actually place mine in my furnace room, over the ducts, below the ceiling. Maybe try that, as I found major improvement when I placed it there.

Main floor maybe the best bet, as most tasks are done there and upstairs. However, my developed house did not allow for me to move it up there.
