Apparently, Davydenko recovered sufficiently from his breathing issues last Friday against Vasek in Montreal to post a straight set win today in Cincinnati (7-6, 6-3).

Davydenko is easily one of the sketchiest players ever.

Oh man can you imagine if Vasek goes on another run?

How good would he have to do to be seeded at the US Open?

Well, Pospisil isn't defending any points so he's playing with house money, but he'd have to reach the quarters to get a seed, I think. And even then it isn't a sure thing because the US Open doesn't necessarily follow the ATP ranking, IIRC.

all the grand slams have a different formula but i believe the US Open is the closest to if not the actual rankings.

ATM, Tsonga is hurt. Cilic might be suspended.
Simon might be seriously hurt after today. Cracked ribs I heard.

So that could get Pospisil in as a seed. He must beat Goffin tomorrow.

Milos has his hands full right now, lost 1st set to Jack Sock, 2nd set headed towards a tiebreak.

Match delayed after a bird #### on the court. It seemed to have bugged Milos as his can't make a first serve now!

And then of course he breaks after saving a break point from 40-0 up.

If it's right the Wikipedia page says the US Open seeds are based on ATP rankings as of August 19th... right after this tournament.

After today Pospisil passed Nieminen (even though he is still alive in the tourney he had 10 points from last year so only gained 35 with his win today... but not a done deal) and Davydenko is defending 90 points so Vasek is ahead of him on paper right now too though again not a done deal. Dogawhatever from Ukraine is out, will pass him with a 2nd round win.

Means with a win tomorrow he would likely move up to 37th. He should win tomorrow, the guy he is playing is ranked 80th and his best surface is clay.

Unfortunately Benneteau (36th) is in the 3rd round already for the first time at a masters this year and was only defending 10 points, will probably not pass him. Dodig (35) and everybody else is out of reach unless Vasek makes the 4th round, which ain't happening as he's got Djokovic in the 3rd.

At 37th will need 5 withdrawals/suspensions to be seeded at the US Open, kind of a big ask as a lot of guys just go, collect their $23,000 for appearing in the first round and 10 points and withdraw even when slightly injured.

Watching him match up against Djokovic would be awesome though, we've seen these kind of measuring sticks for Raonic regularly and I'd love to see it.

Yup.... and Djokovic is on a mission this week to become the first player in history to win all 9 masters events in a career, hes been to the cincinnati final 4 times and lost. Tough ask for pospisil and raonic... to bad that both have to go through djokovic to even get to the semi.

Pospisil is first up tomorrow at 9am.
Raonic in midafternoon.

Also they're making Murray play at 11am local, let's see if my prediction of him sucking before noon holds true.

I see Pospisil just lost the first set 7-5 and was an incredible 0/9 on break points against the soft serving Belgian.

And Pospisil answers in the second set 6-1.

I hate the "break point" stat. I think total non-service points stat would give a better sense of the players return game.

1st and 2nd serve points won percentage sort of indicate that.
