No issues here that I've observed on a Z10, at work or at home.

Have you upgraded to 10.1? Did it start doing this before or after 10.1?

There's a new technique for sideloading native code Android apps that has opened up a multitude of possibilities on the Z10 and Q10. I've finally got Rdio running on my Z10 (at least until they release something native or official). If you surf over to crackberry.com you'll find information about the process, which basically involves obtaining a set of developer certificates to allow you to self-sign apps. Lots of people are having lots of success with a ton of apps.

BlackBerry goes back in its promise to update the Playbook to BB10. Absolutely disappointed. Should I be surprised? Maybe not, but I am unfortunately am.
Not a good impact to leave on your consumers.

Well the hardware is more than 2 years old now (perhaps older if you look at comparable technology at the time). And Blackberry themselves have outright claimed that the tablet market will be dead in 5 years.

To be honest, moving bb10 to the playbook is probably the least of their concerns.

I am sure all 10 of those people will be devastated.

On a clean boot of a Z10, there's about 1.3 to 1.4 gigs of RAM leftover once the Hub is finished loading. Not sure what Playbook owners _ever_ thought they were going to do with 300 megs of free RAM on a multitasking tablet (as opposed to say the iPad Mini, which itself only has maybe 400 megs of free RAM after boot, but is largely task/app switching by design)

Stupid of BB to ever publicly talk about it, but I never thought it was going to fly.

Who cares about the Playbook. Isn't the real story here that BlackBerry completely failed to meet expectations and actually posted a loss in what was supposed to be its triumphant return? They only sold 2.7 million BB10 phones and actually lost another 4 million customers during the quarter.

Is the death watch back on again?

Next quarter. This quarter did not account for the Q10 in particular, and less so, the Q5 for emerging markets and continued rollout worldwide.

Even next quarter is probably a little bit premature to turn on the deathwatch for a company that is essentially starting from scratch, but that still has 3+ billion in the bank. The performance figures for the quarter are still an important bellwether for the outlook going forward, though, more than any other quarter to date.

Agreed. They have to be concerned about that massive amount of bad press they are getting today (CNN Money was particularly brutal) and how it will negatively sway potential customers.

I have the opportunity to switch my 9800 Bold for either a Z10 or go with a Samsung Windows phone for work. I think I am done with Blackberry, but old habits die hard. Are the people with a Z10 pleased with the performance? Or would a Windows phone be a better choice?

If I had to choose between the two, I would go with the Z10. I really disliked the Windows phone that I used for work for a while.

If you are intending to use it primarily for work functions (messaging of all kinds), the Z10 is great. If you're expecting to get an app-rich experience like an iPhone out of the box, you'll be disappointed. The core messaging/facebook/twitter experience is really, really good. The integration with Dropbox, as well as Blackberry Link (remotely access files on your desktop from anywhere) is eye opening for a former iPhone user. The onscreen keyboard is superb. Finally, if your work device is going to be managed, the Blackberry Balance system is great - really unobtrusive, and provides nice separation between work and personal stuff.

I have no idea about Windows phone - people I know that have them seem to like them, but I only ever see them using the stock apps, so I don't really know - never seen a Windows Phone power user. The UI is awfully pretty though (in my opinion).

No idea about Windows phone app support - I assume its pretty cruddy, like the BB.

That being said, Android support/compatibility on the Z10 is going to get a big shot in the arm with BB OS 10.2, which will be released soon, and I've already got apps like Instagram, Netflix, SiriusXM, Rdio, Google Maps, and others, working fine on the Z10.

Can't add much more that's different from what sclitheroe said.

Overall I don't see a major bonuses a Windows phone has over a BB10 device other than a eye catching UI. Not that BB10 is lacking in anyway, just me being biased in that. Messaging, typing and potentially apps are all strengths of the BB10 device.

What about the camera? I use it a lot for work and personal stuff. The one on my Bold is terrible.

It's good. Maybe not quite as good as an iPhone 5, but I've taken some great photos with mine.

There's a thread here with lots of Z10 shots - the skills of the photographer being the biggest variable, clearly:
http://forums.crackberry.com/blackbe...en-z10-766132/

One trick if you get one - put the camera in 4:3 shooting mode, which uses all 8 megapixels on the sensor. If you use 16:9 shooting mode, it just letterboxes and uses fewer megapixels.

Do you mean you are concerned about BlackBerry being sold? Because that won't be happening anytime soon, if ever.

In Q5 news, Q5 just released on Bell, Fido, Koodo, SaskTel, TELUS and Virgin.

Outright prices range from $350 (Fido) to $425 (Telus).

Certainly a good price point to start. Of only there was some way to lower it by another $50 to make it REALLY appealing.

What is going to happen to Blackberry then? Just slowly wither away in the coming years?
