Well the capital was still Coruscant I'm sure that Palpatine didn't have all of his military leadership with him on the Death Star. I agree with you that there would be a civil war within the empire, it was the prevalent theme in the EU that the Empire spent as much time fighting itself as it did the Rebels.

The empire was a very militaristic government, it wouldn't be out of the question for a group of admirals and generals to form and interm government and move to harshly crush any resistance. I would assume that because of Palpatines paranoia there was a huge military presence on every key world.

Remember that in effect Palpatine saw the Death Star 2 as the ultimate trap and the ultimate power and he had fallen into the same trap that the Jedi had fallen into generations before and that trap was arrogance.

He needed the fleet there to pin the rebels so the Death Star could ravage their fleet. But I have trouble seeing a galaxy with "Thousands of Star Systems" only having a few dozen Star Destroyers. I would thing that each sector would still have an oppressor/defense fleet and a large garrison of troops to supress any rebellion. As we saw in the movies and to the extent the EU. Storm Troopers and Imperial officers were utterly committed to the Empire, while a civil war would certianly erupt and split the empire into smaller empires those smaller empires would probably be like viper pits.

The rebellion was massively outgunned at the start of the Endor Battle and we saw them lose a significant amount of ships in that battle as well.

I think it would be a leap for the Rebellion to suddenly become the "New Republic".

I think in the next movie the galaxy should still be entangled in a multiwar battle for dominance between a "New Republic" and a version of a split roman empire.

Hollywood today if a far different beast than when the originals came out. Just look at the Landscape. Disney now owns lucasfilms and ILM....so right off the bat the opening sequence is going to be different. DISNEY! OKay, honestly, that scares me a little bit. Could end up being a jar jar extravaganza fest.
I would pay money for them to roll out Jar Jar as the villian. I mean the guy so utterly pulled the strings behind Palpatine, I could believe that Palpatine was a dupe for the real Sith Lord, Darth Mui Mui (Senator Jar Jar binks)

Agreed about the state of Hollywood, but disagree about the apprehension on Disney. There's probably no better studio to take on something like Star Wars as it has the imagination and the ability to put pretty much whatever they want on the screen.

Good, already off to the right start.

Can't do a Star Wars movie without John Williams scoring the movie.

So a friend of mine came over for beers and we were trying to come up with a way to make this work out where you could combine some of the old lore with the new so called breed while bringing in some of the EU stuff as well.

In terms of cast

Luke - Jedi Master
Leia - Head of State
Han Solo - Semi Drunken former husband of head of state
Jaina Solo - Jedi Padawan
Jacen Solo - Jedi Knight
Ben Skywalker - Jedi Padawan

Since the end of the civil war there has been 30 years of relative peace with the Empire. The battle lines have stabilized with occassional scrimmages along a demilitarized zone. Luke Skywalker who is now close to 70 years old has contented himself with rebuilding the Jedi Order and training a new generation of Jedi Knights to bring peace and harmony to the New Republic. Since the end of the Empire many of the old hero's have died. Mon Mothma died several years ago and Leia was elected to the position of Head of State of the New Republic by the re-constituted and often hostile Senate. Han Solo drifted away after a nasty divorce and proceeded to take up smuggling again to spite his ex wife by breaking the law on both sides of the border. Chewbacca died of feline aids and he was replaced by a new cute and fuzzy co-pilot.

Meanwhile Luke has decided to send his two Padawan's Jaina and Ben (his son) by a marriage to a woman long dead) on their first stand alone mission to the long dead world of Naboo a planet devastated by Imperial bombardment just after the end of the Galactic Civil War by a vengeful Empire. He has heard a rumor of a Sith Holocron and the Jedi mandate is to recover all Sith objects to keep from the long dead Sith from rising again.

He decides to send Jacen Solo a promising Jedi Knight with them.

They depart and make their way to Naboo a planet with shattered cities and corpses. They make their way to the basement of the capital building and in the basement they find a hidden room. Inside they find a pyramid shaped Holocron and Jacen decides to activate it. The three offspring of the original hero's sit down around the holocron and it softly activates and a cloaked figure begins to speak.

"Hello and welcome my friends, I am glad to see people who are enlightened enough to follow knowledge. The knowledge on this holocron has been waiting for people like you who want to bring justice and security to the galaxy and wish to bring true balance to the force. Sadly if you are seeing this it means I'm dead and I beg you my friends to use my power however you see fit, and unlock all the secrets of the Force"

You might not recognize me based on my elder years, but I thought that due to a bit of vanity on my part that I would present my younger self to you. My name is Palpatine and I have a story to tell"

The scene fades to black and we transition back to Coruscant many months later where a concerned Leia on the way to a peace summit with the Empire begs Luke to find her Children. she then departs but her ship never reaches the conference as it explodes in orbit over the negotiating site the wreckage of Alderaan. At the same time Luke calls Han Solo and breaks the news of his kids. Solo agrees to get Luke and go find the young Jedi. They go off and start searching and we can get some minor intrigue thrown in as they head to Naboo.

They finally reach Naboo and they don't find the children, they find the crushed wreckage of the holocron and the crumpled robe of Ben Skywalker who was run through with a light saber. Luke at the same time finds out about the death of his sister and angrily blames the Empire and believes that they have found a dark jedi that survived order 66 all of those years ago. He wants to fly off to the new center of the Empire The Bastian in the deep core. After a fierce argument Han talks him out of it and they return to Coruscant, Han leaves Luke there and promised to keep working on finding the kids and tracking down Leia's killer.

Luke is mediating in his room when the door opens, he opens his eyes and states that he felt the intruders presence. The shrouded figure shrugs and a blood red light saber blade slowly grows. A vicious light saber brawl erupts. Meanwhile in orbit around Corsuscant a massive fleet of Star Destroyers revert to real space they surround a massive Super Star Destroyer. Suddenly we flash back to the light saber duel between Luke and the shrouded assailant. Luke is realizing that he . . . . just . . . doesn't have the . . . . strength that he used too. But he desperately fights because his death won't help anyone. At the same time every screen and every system in the republic changes to a cloaked figure sitting on a ornate throne, on each side there is an Imperial Red Guard. The voice speaks, it is clear and angelic.

"Citizen's of the Republic, it is time to end all of our petty conflicts. It is time to unite the galaxy and its people, to bring families back together and bring order and justice to everyone. Peace has a price, but you don't have to pay it if you choose not too. You have minutes to surrounded of face the forces of the Imperial Star Fleet. Join us or suffer the consequences as we move forward with one leader appointed for life, one Emperor."

Mean while the light saber duel ends as the shrouded figure flips over Luke and rams his saber through Luke from behind. Luke gasps and slumps to his knees as the hooded figure lowers his hood and studies his father with cold yellow eyes and says "I'm sorry father, its time to bring true peace to the galaxy and true balance to the force" He then smirks and strides out as his father's body shimmers and fades. Meanwhile on the mighty super star destroyer the intern head of state agree's to surrender to its new Emperor.

In a hospital somewhere in the outer rim, Ben Skywalkers eyes open and a single tear slides down his face.

End of movie one.

It has come to my attention that Captain Crunch should be writing the new Star Wars movies.

Nice job Captain. A lot of death and I don't know if I would like Luke to die in the first one, but I like the ideas!

I messed up part of it, I wanted Jaina Solo to kill Luke off, sorry.

That was we could move forward with an entirely new line of hero's and get the shock of killing off Luke and Leia.

We get the Sith without re-incarnating or cloning anyone. there's the potential of Han Solo in the second movie.

I suspect if Luke were to die in any of the new Star Wars movies he would merely become one with the Force. Similarily to Yoda, but with a little more fanfare. Perhaps he chooses to do so to prevent an enemy the satisfaction of actually killing and torturing him, and/or to free another hero.

I also want to point out that we didn't actually see Leia die in Captain Crunch's story. It is merely assumed that Leia was indeed on her ship. Perhaps she was kidnapped just as she was about to board and the ship was destroyed by the kidnappers...

Sorry, I'll stop ruining your story lines now, Captain.

I don't think that ruins it Buff. Makes complete sense that Luke would become one with the Force just like all other perished Jedi. And it would be cool to see him take an Obi-Wan role of guidance, but I wouldn't want it to the point where ghost Luke was running around actually doing things.

I like the ambiguity behind Leia too. All things considered, that would be a movie worth watching for sure.

No you're not ruining it, I posted it because I love the discussion around it.

I screwed up the ending by having the wrong person killing Luke. But wanted him to intentionally fade so it leaves it open to a Force Ghost Luke advising his son. I also wanted Luke to die at the hands of his niece because in the Bane books and in the Legacy series and it even hinted at in the Prequel. In order to truly gain power with the darkside you have to sacrifice something near and dear to you (Anakin realizes in the end that he has to sacrifice the love of Padme and the Jedi Order to gain power, in the Legacy books Jacen has to sacrifice the love of his nephew, even in the Plageus book Palpatine slaughters his family to discover his power)

I left the final state of Leia up for question, the idea of a cliff hanger where she could return or be dead would be interesting.

I also wanted to get Palpatine into the story line without him being a clone or a Sith force ghost. I thought it was important that he remained dead so we don't completely crap on the whole 6 part series. But I thought Palpatine was one of the stronger characters in the Star Wars univers and pure evil and the possibility that he could seduce a power full Jedi or two into rebuilding the Sith would be great.

We do know that Jaina kills Luke in my rewrote. I thought that would be a cool thing to do and add emotional impact. But are we sure that Jacen is the figure on the Throne or is it someone else.

I also thought that the seduction line that only the Sith were powerful enough to bring Justice and Order to the GFFA would be a different seduction line to the pure you will gain personal power and save someone.

If I was to write a full treatment the Galaxy would still be in the middle of a 40 year planet shattering civil war between the Forces of the empire and the new republic. We could even have Luke debating with his students about how far one should go to secure peace and liberty in the galaxy and one of the Jedi to say you can't have true peace with liberty or something like that.

But I think that the above could lay the way for the usual formula of the New Republic becoming the Rebellion again and all hope being lost in the second movie.

We could also bring back a lot of the characters from the EU and the original and prequel movies and TCW and rebel series as well.

Anyways I'm doing this as a fun exercise and I enjoy the feedback.

The reason why I said I was ruining it, was my idea kept Luke and Leia alive. What made your idea so cool and refreshing was killing Luke and Leia the shock of the finality of the heros of Episodes 4-6. My idea keeps them alive, and borrows the idea of Ben Kenobi's ghost.

What I didn't like about your idea is that it changes the EU. In my ideal world they would work with what has already been written in the EU and ensure that these new movies don't erase what we've already read and taken upon as the way things have happened. Some of those books may be crap, but they are all a piece of the EU.

Either way, I'm still excited to go see a new Star Wars movies in the theatres and to be able to take my kids so they can also experience Star Wars in the theatres.

I know on the EU front, I'm a pretty big Star Wars reader, but when I compare the old republic stuff including the Bane books to the clone war stuff to the post ROTJ stuff, for the most part the post ROTJ stuff is just not that good. I had high hopes for the Darth Caedus story line, but it was so indecisive and Jacen was just a weak caricature of what I thought a Sith Lord should be. The Fate of the Jedi stuff was even worse.

I give credit to the Thrawn Trilogy but it was written far before the prequels came out and because of that most of the stuff in there and concepts are un-usable.

The rogue squadron stuff was pretty good and you could grab characters from that.

BTW I outright hated Mara Jade and would wretch if she was in the new movies.

I would want Luke to be beaten down by the weight of the galaxy with a long dead wife maybe one who fell battling the Empire.

As an add on, no super weapons in the new one. No fricken sun crushers no freaking World Devestators or Star Destroyers with planet cracking super lasers.

I would like to see a scarier variant on the Storm Troopers, I did like Thrawns idea of cloning his best troopers to man his ships and army units.

I would like to see the question answered, is Boba Fett really dead and long digested or is he an 80 year old man still angry at the death of his father?

I would like to see the continuation of the concept of he fell to the dark side with the best intentions, something that they really struggled with in Anakins case.

Captain, I will say, you're missing the exploits of Star Wars' true hero: R2D2

How does he and C3PO fit in? I feel like we could all agree they should remain.

Its funny because I've always seen the whole Star Wars Saga as the lives and adventures of those two droids and everything happens around them. They were there when the galaxy changes and changes again.

One thing that I didn't much enjoy was they worked way to hard in the prequel to make them primary characters. in the originals they were more background character who were there to add character and the rare heroic moment.

I would absolutely have them both there in a new story. I would have R2D2 still with Luke. I would have him witness the death of Luke as well and cry as well as droids can cry.

I'm not sure with C3PO his rightful place is really with Leia, but I think killing him off harms the spirit of his character. I firmly believe that they should have still been around in the Legacy series 140 years in the future which R2D2 was in aiding Cade Skywalker. I believe they actually have shown the abandonment and death of C3PO in a comic called storyteller

It would be kind of funny if C3PO ended up on the Falcon after the death of Chewy, the dynamic between an older cynical slightly bitter Solo and a chirpy C3PO would have some good sincere comedy moments.

So, Captain, did you hear this rumor before you wrote your story?

http://blogs.canoe.ca/projectionist/...n-episode-vii/

Based on that, it sounds like the EU is being ignored. Which can sorta be good because as Captain said, the best stuff is from BBY (Before the Battle of Yavin), but there is this entire base of story lines that we've been following and taking as how the Star Wars universe continued, and now it is officially changed. It can be treated as an alternate universe, but I don't follow alternate universes well if the precede what is considered to be canon. I'm sure I'll love the new movies but it is going to be weird forgetting about Jacen, Jaina, Ben, Mara, Corran and the rest of the gang.

I'm hoping that they're not going to bring Palpatine back as a living person, clone or force ghost and I'll explain why

1) It basically drops a 70 pound smelly poop log all over the original trilogy and the story and makes Vader's sacrifice and redemption fairly meaningless. He wouldn't have lived up to the chosen one prophesy, he wouldn't have bought balance to the force. It would be dumb.

2) I absolutely thought the Dark Empire series was the biggest dumbest piece of Star Wars crap ever written with continual spews of vomit fired out of the pages everytime another Palpatine clone popped out of a test tube and fired up another ridiculous super weapon.

3) EU did a really big disservice with the whole idea of evil Sith Ghosts running around. The act that Ben Kenobi did and Yoda did where they could shed their bodies and remain aware in the ether of the force came from the fact that Jedi were willing to sacrifice themselves for the greater good. The only thing that Sith were afraid of was death so they couldn't go into the force because it would mean giving themselves to the will of the force. Sith believed that through power they controlled the force, the jedi felt that the force dictated their actions. Even Plageus' concept of defeating death was to influence the midiclorians to create life or to sustain life, not to fade into a ghost advisor.

I'm hoping and praying that Abrams and Arndt aren't so lazy that they're going to recycle and possibly ruin one of the greatest villains that I've ever seen.

Several news sources are reporting that Disney will be re-vamping many rides to be star wars theme based. I.e. space mountain. Obviously to tie into the movie and drive theme based attendance.
