At least for me - admittedly going more off of what I've heard from others and not much based on what I've seen myself.
Didn't take Horak/Reinhart due to limited upside in my opinion. So then it came down to Granlund v. Agostino - which for me was a virtual pick 'em.

I went against the grain. I have high hopes that Berra is NHL ready. If he is, then there is no way he still deserves to be on the board. I also like the commitment he showed going to the prospect camp.

He played Center all through development camp.

i picked reinhart.
Loved how he brought his game up when he was given the opportunity with the big club last season.
I'm not that high on horak, as i feel that, though he's not bad any part of the game, he doesn't necessarily excel in anything either. I'd pick him as a decent #13 forward that can step in and play C or the wing in the bottom 6.
I think in the end reinhart will be a better player, and a guy pushing to be a starting C on the bottom 2 lines perhaps as early as next season.

IMO watching him in the NCAA tournament was as impressive as Gaudreau was the year before. They were impressive for different reasons as Johnny Hockey wowed with his puck skills, but Agostino wowed with his 2way play (it was like every big goal started with an Agostino forced turnover) and intensity.

My choise was between Agostino/Reinhart/Granlund
Granlund plays a pretty soft game from what I have seen, has no edge, and not nearly the same skill set as his bro. I am even curious if he would like the contact of the north american game.
Reinhart is closer to the NHL, as he has played a handful of games but his upside is a 3rd line center
Agostino is further from the NHL (one more year of college) but has a bit more upside (a big bodied power forward/top 6)
As the Flames have Knight/Arnold that also have the same upside as Reinhart I am going to give the slight edge to Agostino, more of a need/upside pick then probablility.

I'm considerably more happy with the Iginla trade (circle of life deal) with Callahan being thrown around then I was with just hoping Klimchuck would be an impact player.

I was immensely impressed with Agostino during the Frozen Four. He looks really smart positionally & forechecks hard. He seems to have a good amount of offensive instincts to work with as well. He has Glencross's physical abilities but a bit more hockey sense, in my opinion.

I went back and forth between Agostino, Reinhart, Horak but went with Horak. He has the smarts to be a top 9 forward in the NHL as soon as this season.

top 10 off the board, and there is still Berra, Bouma, Cundari, Horak, Ramo and Reinhart, all of whom have a pretty good chance at starting the season in the NHL
Not unfathomable for Agostino, Arnold, Breen, Granlund, Hanowski, Nemisz and Ramage to get a cup of coffee at some point as well
10 players gone with 6 or more NHLers still on the board. Not bad!

I don't consider Horak a prospect so I forgot about him. If I remembered I probably would have vote him. But I didn't so I went Agostino.
My top 11 has the same guys as this top 11 so far (assuming Agostino wins). Though with a different order.
1. Baertschi
2. Monahan
3. Gaudreau
4. Knight
5. Poirier
6. Klimchuk
7. Jankowski
8. Wotherspoon
9. Gilles
10. Sieloff
11. Agostrino
That is a reasonably competent top 11. Nice to see the Flames turning it around.

I think Horak will be a full-time NHLer this season but I don't think you can call him one now when he played 59 games last season in the AHL.

That was in large part due to the lockout.
My cut off is less then 26 yo and 80 GP (skater). Of course everyone seems to have a different definition.

It was due to the lockout sure, but then when Flames camp opened he made the team, played two games and was dispatched when camp injuries cleaned up.
He then played four games in February and was sent down again until the Flames cleaned house and went with youth.
That's hardly an established NHL season and the reason I still consider him a prospect.

Powerplay Quarterback
|
I pulled a Feaster and went off the board with Cundari. I think he brings a really interesting element of offense and physicality from the blue line that is really hard to find. I know that his size might inhibit him from playing as physically as he has in the minors but I love his compete level and I love a guy that makes life difficult for the other team.
