As a player, one of Ljubicic's best qualities was his return. Good to see him trying to develop that skill set on Raonic.

Weird atmosphere right now. People don't know how to react. Happy he's moving on, but yeah, you paid to see some tennis.
If Raonic wins...it would be a Raonic/Pospisil SF. Interesting.

Too bad Davydenko couldn't have taken a few more body blows for the crowd, he looked hurt but was also getting pasted by Vashy. Semi tomorrow is going to be epic. Hopefully Raonic can beat Gulbis and we will be guaranteed a Canadian in the final.
I dunno who I would cheer for between them, Milos has lead the way for Canadian tennis and his attitude and recognition of what Canada has given him and his family to me represents the best of todays Canada. Especially when I contrast it with our weaselly soccer players who use an opportunity to play for somebody else.
That said Pospisil has such amazing enthusiasm and is an Okanagan boy to boot. Win win.

Well said. The Raonic family adores Canada. They are proud Montenegrins, but at the same time, patriotic Canadians.
Both Montenegro and Serbia went after Raonic hard about three years ago, shortly before he hit the top 100. Both countries wanted Milos to play for them, but he politely declined and said "Canada has given us everything."
Today's Canada indeed is made up of so many appreciative immigrants. It's pretty cool.

Popisils ranking likely climbs pretty dramatically after this tournament. With his ranking he should be getting direct entry into tournaments he normally wasnt playing. Even if he loses first round he will pick up the first round points which will add up.
This makes me all the more excited for Davis cup now. Roanic, Popisil in singles and Nestor/Popisil in doubles actually has a fightning chance.

I would totally agree normally but Vasek has me questioning that with his play, he is a different player today than he was 6 months ago, he doesn't have Milos's serve but he has been returning better in this tourney.
Man I hope Raonic beats Gulbis. What a day for tennis in Canada, Pospisil into a masters semi, raonic in a quarter and then nadal and djokovic on centre court to end the day. Organizers must be over the moon.
Edit... Broadcasters said historically Pospisil has won 3/4 past meetings with Raonic. (years ago)

Good point, Vasek's days of qualifiers are over, at least until the Rogers Cup next year.

I would still play Dancevic in the throw away Friday against Djokovic and Pospisil for a 5th and deciding rubber.
I also hope Djokovic wins the US Open on the Monday night and is too tired to play on Friday and withdraws

I was thinking something similair. I think you want Popisil/Nestor as the doubles team, and with the compressed schedule may make more sense to have Dancevic play that first match.
With Nole there its an uphill battle, but as you said if he doesnt come a team of Tipsaravic and Troicki is definitely beatable.
I cant say I have ever been more excited for Canadian tennis.

I would say Pospisil is a more well-rounded player. Huge serve, can go shot for shot from the baseline, change the pace of the rally with his slice, and would say he has superior net play to raonic.
That said, Raonic is still Raonic and will have more respect from the top ranked players. Even though Pospisil has been climbing the rankings for awhile now. We have seen Peter Polansky put together a string of matches in a row as well.

So is Sportsnet.ca still streaming the Rogers Cup? Don't see the Raonic match up anywhere.

Milos really struggling. Won the 1st set on a tiebreak but beaten handily in the 2nd set. Now life and death service game to begin the 3rd.
Milos's service games are definitely more of a struggle and the Latvian's.

Milos breaks! Up 3-1. Ballbasher's serve has gone AWOL. FOUR double faults in a row! The Montreal crowd is actually laughing at him.
