So Air Canada is going to take some 787-900's as well:

-15x 788
-22x 789

Six 787's will be delivered in 2014 to them.

The bad news: If Air Canada can deploy a 777 with 8 more seats than the original 450 seat version of a Qantas A380, anyone can over many other routes to Australia that are not as demanding on jet performance as non-stop to Canada.

Something funny to do is to read the comments posted on airlines' Facebook pages.

Air Canada just posted, "Did you know... The Airbus A330's winglet – which extends from the wing – reduces the aircraft’s drag and lowers fuel consumption by nearly 4%. ‪#‎A330‬ ‪#‎DidYouKnow‬"

The responses are along the lines of, "So you should reduce your fare by 4% for flights using this type of aircraft."

It blows my mind how stupid these people are.

Yeah. I stopped reading after "this exercise in jamming an A380 load of passengers into the confines of a 777 shows". The 773 has existed, and been certified for, 550 passengers since 1998. Shutup about the damn A380, it's not the metric by which everything should be compared.

Well to be fair, that's the 773, rarely do the 77W have much more than 400.

Either way, another reason not to take AC long haul - a 3-4-3 layout is tight on that craft.

Oh man. There's a girl on my Facebook who had her status he other day. "Missed my flight to Toronto now I have to be rerouted through Halifax. I specifically chose the direct flight because I hate those little planes!"

She was flying out of YQY a small regional airport, scheduled on a CRJ705 maximum 75 people. Still missed her flight. She hasn't given any details as to why she missed it or how it happened.

She had a delay in Halifax as shockingly there isn't a quick connector from YQY to YYZ via YHZ when there is a direct flight that leaves about an hour earlier.

The story doesn't stop there. Who would have thought in a period of record load factors, all the flights to Toronto would be full? So they attempted to reroute her via Ottawa and the Montreal. After flying her to Montreal they got her to Toronto.

Upon arrival in Toronto her bags weren't there. Because the baggage people in Halifax obviously know what last minute flight she will definitely be on. Naturally they held back her luggage so it didn't go to Ottawa when she went to Montreal.

Now, who's fault is all of this?

Naturally Air Canada's.

People think the airline's schedule revolves around them and then when they miss their flight on their own accord (allegedly) the airline owes them.

1. Get to the airport on time.
2. If you miss your flight understand that your luggage will (or should) stay put so the airline knows where it is until your flight is confirmed. Once confirmed if it's too late to put your luggage on the flight, it will soon follow.

And because of this Air Canada is being trashed all over her Facebook profile by her and lots of others.

In happier news the YQY-YYZ flight will now be year round serviced by a CRJ100/200. Westjet you're up to follow suit :P

Edit: SWEET MOSES autocorrect his awful, you'd think English was my second language.

Air Canada has also ordered 20 sets of blended winglets for the 767-300 fleet, no doubt to get the performance/fuel savings from them as they are transferred over to Rouge flying as the 787's arrive.

Same airframe, different engines and weights. The article just comes across as irritatingly pessimistic and unnecessary babble at AC. Not only does AC's 458 pax 77W have nothing to do with Australia, but he acknowledges that AC's not the first to do it on a 777-300 but still acts like it's going to create some brand new catastrophe for Australian fliers.

Speaking of winglets. Sunwing to get the new winglets for its 737-800s.

Includes a good picture of the winglet.

I still think fuel trucks, and whatever other truck, are gonna snap these things off like twigs.

A little back on forth via email between SSP forumer YYCSpotter and Air Canada:

Quote:
I emailed AC and asked them why they included YYC-PEK on the map of their current routes. This is the response I got:

"The map that you are referring too is a map of routes that we are either going to add to our existing scheduling or routes to which we are scheduling additional flights."
And then...

Quote:
Me: "So can we expect to see Calgary-Beijing flights fairly soon?"

AC: "Yes, you can count on it."
Pretty strong in that response, but as with all things aviation I'll believe it when I see it.

A follow up to that YYC-PEK rumoured flight with AC. The Calgary Airport Authority has also talked with YYCSpotter and indicated that they are indeed finalizing the flights with Air Canada. No time frame on the announcement though.

The flight is easily operated with a 763, so the thinking is it will happen some time in 2014 as AC gets the first 787 frames, freeing up a 763 or two to operate the PEK flight.

Yup, sucks.

What is worse is the reports the 2 crew perished, but looking at those photos the cockpit looks to be in ok shape (unless it got crushed in and you can't see it).

VVVV Never mind my above comments.

I am flying to cancun on flight 3450 on the 25th from edmonton via calgary and I can't figure out who is flying the route. Transat is what is says on my itinerary but it says its a 737 which I am sure transat does not have. I know sometimes they charter their routes. Anyone know who is flying this route?

Nm I think I figured it out, enerjet I believe.
