It probably has more to with our generally higher education levels and natural compassion.

Thanks, but those are the types of allegations that any news agency of any stripe could face. Those aren't as a result of dogma?
I can think of a number of times where poster-boy Ezra Levant has said things that are cringe-worthy though. Here is the kind of garbage they're trying to pass off as news and the resulting Canadian Broadcasting Standards admonishment:
http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2012/06...n_1594452.html
I won't lie: when I watched the clip last December of him saying that, I laughed. It was so shockingly ridiculous that it makes me laugh even today! But its not news.

The fashion designer one was in fact all about CBC news with an axe to grind I wish I could remember his name because they outright went out of their way to try to destroy the guy.
I have a lot of problems with CBC and the way they do business and report the news.
I think Levant is pretty much a clown.
I think the ruling by the CRTC is bizarre with the whole we know your being treated unfairly.
I think that the Sun does in effect bring balance to the Canadian news spectrum in terms of stories that the CBC won't report because it goes against their position pop up on the Sun broadcast.
I'm not a big fan of either the CBC or the Sun. I think the CBC is a massive waste of money at this point. I laughed when Harper won his majority because it was great to see the CBC reporting team with their heads down basically fighting back tears.
I think the Sun tries to hard to be contraversial and results in some outrightly bizarre t.v spersonalities.

You are thinking about Peter Nygard. A guy who has had a pretty chequered past himself: http://www.forbes.com/forbes/2010/12...to-no-one.html
Nygard's case against CBC proceeds: http://www.torontosun.com/2013/05/03...d-cbc-proceeds
Personally I think Sun news is junk, it does not qualify as news more as opinion disguised as news.

I would argue that their coverage of Theresa Spence and calling attention to the misuse of funds on that reservation was a pretty good job.
I would argue that SunTV's reporting on the BC elections were ahead of everyone else.

Your beloved BBC is regularly in court, is regularly plagued by scandal and suppressed news programmes to protect a paedophile.

I dunno, I think with statements like this you're projecting more than you're seeing things the way they are. I didn't see it it that way at all, and it wasn't because I was defending a liberal news broadcast. I was firmly in the Harper camp then.
I'm not sure how one can argue that Sun 'news' network doesn't contain more op-ed and opinion pieces, cause it simply does. You can watch both channels for 24 hours and you'll see this. I dare you. Quite simply, that is not news. And it's programs like that which are bringing down US news. Don't get me wrong, one or two of these programs a day aren't a bad thing. But they need to be rare, and they need to be clearly identified as such.
This is not to say that they're aren't problems with Canadian news networks and the CBC. This is not to say there isn't a slight left lean to the CBC. But to simply brush off that Sun is simply the other side of the spectrum and is as reliable, accurate, and newsworthy as CBC or CTV is false.

A station filled with idiocy and downright ######ed opinions doesn't bring balance. Fox news tries to claim the same thing, and it's just not true.

I always thought that the CBC was slightly liberal leaning, CTV was slightly conservative leaning and the Sun News Network was the news equivalent of the guy holed up in his basement talking about how the south will rise again.
I really don't see what they would contribute to basic cable programming other than noise

I was surprised when I turned to the Sun News network to see Michael Coren absolutely blasting some woman from the Real Woman of Canada group who was angry at Baird for going going after an african nation for their laws against Gay Rights. He made her look like an absolutely terrible woman when she argued that this country was in its own rights to go after and punish gays and that Canada was hypocritical because real Canadian values don't include gay rights.
Coren actually did a good job of pointing out that the government was right in trying to impose its values on other countries in terms of human rights including Gay rights.
While he still stands with the silly marriage is between a man and a woman stuff. He actually said that a persons sexuality is something that should be protected by law and not punished by the law, and that the nations of the world including Russia who persecute gays are pretty terrible governments.
The reason why I posted it is that I was surprised at Coren's stance.
By the way I think it was this group and the country that they were talking about was Uganda

What is Sun News you ask?
It's for...
Quote:
the millions of people in this great country who want an independent, non-liberal voice in media
I mean conservatives, Christians, supporters of Israel, those who don’t detest the United States, those who have intelligent and critical questions about global warming propaganda, critics of communism, those who refuse to worship at the feet of Trudeau, Suzuki and the CBC, men and women who question establishment wisdom about major policies, Canadians who want the right and freedom to speak out and speak loud.

I like how Xtians and supporters of Israel is 2nd and 3rd on his list.
I'd swear it was written by Glenn Beck if it didn't have so much Can con.

That's how I see it too, keeping in mind that the centre is farther left than some would like. The Conservatives have been trying to move it to the right with some success but it's still well left of the US centre, as it should be.
