Teuvo has looked very good in these exhibition games... He's is looking like he should have gone top 6 or 7 in 2012.

They could've picked him up, and chose not to. They passed on him three times.

Well given the leaked information that we invited him to Calgary ahead of the draft and that Monahan, Poirier and Klimchuk were the other invites it would appear that Petan was probably our backup option if we were unable to land Poirier and Klimchuk where we did.

Is this fact?

Not doubting or challenging you, just asking because I have not heard this.

Very interesting if true.

I think Monahan, Poirier and Klimchuk all confirmed this in interviews the day of the draft or after the draft. Don't have the links handy but I'm pretty sure my info is correct.

Andrew Walker ‏@fan960walker 29 Jun
Keep your eye on Calgary kid Morgan Klimchuk Sun. Right in #Flames crosshairs at 28. Came into Dome week after combine for 2nd interview.

After the draft Feaster said they drafted 3 out of the 4 players they invited back to Calgary

I remember Monahan and Petan. And after reading above, I remember Klimchuk.

But I have not seen any specific mention of Poirier.

because he's generously listed at 5'9" and 166 Lbs. We have enough small players and need to go with bigger players for now. He also is a centre and will probably be too small to handle that positions defensive duties in the NHL. Good choice in the 2nd round though.

Same reason as everyone else. 'Cause he's small.

You're holding Monahan's development against him which doesn't make logical sense. If the question is, who is better, you answer with "well the guy who's worse because he hasn't had the opportunities of the guy who's better."

That's not how I would evaluate two prospects. One player went 6th overall and is an elite level scorer in the best junior league. Another player shows the skills to maybe be an elite scorer someday provided we project our own biases and stories out on how we want that player to develop.

Seems pretty cut and dried to me.
What everyone needs to remember is that these are both our guys; we didn't pass on one for the other. We have two prospects with #1C ceilings.

If they both develop the way we all hope they do, we have a championship foundation.
?-Monahan-Gaudreau
?-Janko-Baertschi

That's four top-6 forwards who are home-grown, to say nothing of Granlund, Poirier, Klimchuk etc. The reality is, they may actually be on their way to building a good team through the draft. Which is what we all wanted anyway. So relax and enjoy it.

Or they just had Klimchuck rated higher, and when Klimchuk was there at 28, they took him.

He confirms in the 1st minute of his draft day interview that he went to Calgary pre-draft.

The Flames were definitely targetting particular players and we happened to land 3 of the ones we were targetting. So the draft worked out well from that perspective. Now we have to hope the scouting was bang on and these kids continue to develop.

Do you think that Monahan, Poirier, Jankowski hang out together at these events after having played together at the Flames development camp?

I don't know about these guys, but Gillies tweeted about going out for dinner with Jankowski the other night. Fraternizing with the enemy!

Wouldn't mind seeing all 3 of them on a line together.

Understand that your comment is "tongue in cheek" but they should get a pass as they are also team- mates on the Providence College team.
