Don't really get the mock lines thing, when's the last time the flames kept the same line together longer then a week? usually they don't even last a game lol

The Heat yet again switch divisions. This year they'll be a part of the West Division:

Quote:
West Division
Abbotsford Heat (CGY)
Charlotte Checkers (CAR)
Oklahoma City Barons (EDM)
San Antonio Rampage (FLA)
Texas Stars (DAL)
This is a very very tough division. Texas, Oklahoma and Charlotte are all excellent teams.

How is CHARLOTTE a "West" team?

I know! Doesn't the new Iowa team make more sense? Hell there are about 26 other teams that are more West than that.

Someone close to the Flames has told me the Flames will be signing an ECHL affiliation agreement with the Alaska Aces

That would be a terrible, terrible decision.

There's no reason as to why, I just wanted to generate some hot new discussion in this thread. It's summer, afterall.

I think it's a great decision, I have always liked the Aces, I wish they were apart of the AHL.

Distance from Abbotsford:

West Valley City, Utah - 1233 kilometres
Anchorage, Alaska - 2193 kilometres

So it's approximately a 1000 km difference between the two locations. Interesting move. I've always liked the Aces franchise. They're a very well coached club and have had excellent success on the ice. That can only mean good things for any prospects that do end up down... I mean up... there.

Evil coach Ward could have a lot of fun with that.

I hope Howse has a big parka, poor kid is going to be spending a lot of time in the Arctic next season. At least he has enough natural insulation to keep warm...

This article seems to say or hint that Utah is again the Flames affiliate.

Quote:
The Utah Grizzlies, the Calgary Flames ECHL affiliate, were fortunate. Their search took just two weeks.
With the departure of Kevin Colley this summer, Grizzlies CEO Kevin Bruder was on the hunt for a new bench boss. He met with several candidates over a 13-day period and while each contender brought valuable experience to the table, it was Tim Branham that quickly won over Bruder and the franchise.

Good.

I'd rather they stick with Utah just because Alaska plays their home games on international sized ice. There's a good chance they'll rotate the Abbotsford goalies through to the ECHL to get them some playing time, and Ortio needs playing time on North American ice.

Hmm I didn't know that. Thanks for the info.

In that case, very good point. Hope they keep their affiliation with Utah as well.

Hershey Bears signed (G) Riley Gill and (F) Tyler Ruegsegger to AHL contracts #AHL
Well this is unfortunate. The rebuild continues on the farm as it does above. Out of all the "vets," Ruegsegger was the one I was hoping they'd hold on to the most.

He'll be missed by the Abby fans for sure.

The #Flames have named Robbie Ftorek assistant coach of the #AHLHeat & Todd Woodcroft as scouting director ~ http://cflam.es/13NxT6A

Never been a fan of Ftorek but I suppose the Flames can't be picky.
