No, that's not accurate. I'm not holding Monahan's opportunity against him. It is part of what he is and what gave him an edge over other players. I'll use an education analogy. Monahan learned his lessons well and applied himself very well coming up which gave him very good grades along the way. That doesn't make him the smartest or brightest kid in his class. It just means he took advantage of the learning opportunities along the way and applied those to score well in a measure against his peers. Jankowski, on the other hand, was not afforded opportunity to exploit the same learning opportunities because of something beyond his control; his size. He did not get the best schooling or the best teachers to show him the ropes, so he does not measure as high on the standardized tests where Monahan excelled. But when you give Jankowski a contextual neutral test he shows how bright he is and the potential he has, which is arguably higher than Monahan's. Jankowski just needs to learn how the system works to see if he measures up.

That's not how I would evaluate two prospects. One player went 6th overall and is an elite level scorer in the best junior league. Another player shows the skills to maybe be an elite scorer someday provided we project our own biases and stories out on how we want that player to develop.

Seems pretty cut and dried to me.
I really don't give a crap where a player was drafted. Rico Fata was drafted 6th over all too and he didn't amount to a hill of beans. A guy drafted 30th can turn out better than a guy drafted 6th. It all depends on their development after their name is called. We'll see how each does in the future as expectations continue to ramp up. Also, Monahan is not an elite scorer. He is a very good player that was ranked very highly because he plays the best two-way game of any player available. Let's not get carried away and set this kid up for failure.

You seem to be forgetting debate the was strictly about upside and not about comparing them straight across as prospects now. Some people rate Jankowski as having the higher upside because of his raw skills and size. They're not saying he's necessarily the better prospect because he has to put all of the pieces together long term to realize his upside. He's holding Monahan's success against him in this argument about upside because he's saying Monahan is closer to reaching his upside at this point and Jankowski has more room for growth as a player. The subject is very debatable and not cut and dried as you say.

Not at all. Just hoping they hadnt fallen out of favor already. Especially if neither had been given any pk time yet.

How are the rest of the guys looking? Is anybody really stepping up and standing out or have our guys looked as good as everybody else? How has Shinkaruk looked?

@coreypronman: Ok. Got 1 scoring chance but not much else. RT @EvanReesor18: @coreypronman How's Jankowski fairing?

@coreypronman: In 2nd liked Saros (NSH) who was great. Also Gauthier (TOR), Petan/Morrissey (WPG), Koekkoek (TBL), Heatherington (CBJ), Shinkaruk (VAN).

Fair analysis? Sounds like he's been a bit better than just OK from the sounds of you guys today.

No Jankowski has had more than 1 scoring chance... Sutter has noticed as well... Jankowski is now on a line with Petan and Leipsic... arguably the best forwards on the ice.

Sounds like Petan is playing good.

This is a guy I wish the Flames would have been able to pick up, just have a feeling that he is going to turn into a player.
