I watched those scrimmages too and it would look like Jankowski was floating or not trying, but then the puck would end up on his stick some how.

When players think the game well they tend to put themselves in the right spot to succeed and due to that they may not look like they are trying as hard, Jankowski falls into this camp in my opinion.

I still agree and think that he needs to be more assertive (especially in the offensive zone) and learn how to use his 6'3" frame to his advantage but think that will also come as he learns to play against better competition.

He was likely so far ahead of his peers in Prep hockey that he didn't have to fully assert himself to dominate, now that he is on a more level playing field he has to adjust but that will come with time.

Jankowski has the skill, hockey sense, and size to be a force, he now just needs to gain the confidence and assertiveness to be able to put it all together.

Jankowski's line cycled the puck nicely for about 15 seconds... leading to a scoring chance

Torie Peterson@ToriePeterson4m

#Flames Gillies to start for the USA today vs. Sweden at the #NJEC. Sieloff paired with Pesce on the back-end.

Sutter has Canada playing the 1-4 trap on ES and 1-3 trap on the PK after Finland was getting quality chances at the start of the 1st period and early PPs.

So far he hasn't given any PK time to Poirier or Jankowski

Are Poirier and Janks getting good TOI in general or are they being used sparingly?

He's just adapting to the incredible growth spurt he went through and will only get better as he gains confidence in his body and skills. Monahan has been playing top end hockey for the better part of his life and has had systems and certain behaviors drilled into him which has given him an edge of having a complete game. These are things that can be learned and Jankowski is just being exposed to these systems. Jankowski has got to where he is on raw skill and instincts and will only improve as a player as he learns the systems. The only thing I see holding him back is his willingness to step up, play physical and get his nose dirty. Having said that, Joe Nieuwendyk was never a player to initiate physical play and he did pretty good in the NHL. Monahan and Jankowski are going to be a great one two punch for years to come. Add in Reinhart and Knight and the position of weakness the Flames had two short years ago is quickly becoming a strength.
Sure that's all well and good. I dont' necessarily disagree with the talent analysis of Janko, but my basic point remains in that Monahan plays the game better than Janko and has played the game better than him for years. So how could you conclude that Monahan has lower upside?

You're holding Monahan's development against him which doesn't make logical sense. If the question is, who is better, you answer with "well the guy who's worse because he hasn't had the opportunities of the guy who's better."

That's not how I would evaluate two prospects. One player went 6th overall and is an elite level scorer in the best junior league. Another player shows the skills to maybe be an elite scorer someday provided we project our own biases and stories out on how we want that player to develop.

Seems pretty cut and dried to me.

Are you suggesting Sutter is being butt hurt after getting canned by the Flames and not giving their prospects a chance?

I think Sutter is in general giving all 4 lines equal TOI so far at ES.

Jankowski almost scored while Gaunce was tied up with the Finn goalie but couldn't lift it above the goalie's pad
