NHL announces sale of Coyotes

The saga is over for at least 5 years

Sarah McLellan ‏@azc_mclellan 1m NHL officially announces sale of the #Coyotes.

Quote:
Here's a Gary Bettman quote from the official release on the close of the #Coyotes sale: "The National Hockey League believes in Arizona as an NHL market and that these new owners can provide the Coyotes the opportunity to secure a stable, long-term future in Glendale. We thank Mike Nealy, Don Maloney, Dave Tippett, team captain Shane Doan and all the players and staff for consistently going 'above and beyond' on behalf of the franchise during this long and complex process. We thank the Coyotes' devoted fans for their patient, perseverant support. We are extremely pleased that a positive resolution has been achieved for the fans, the city, the Coyotes and the League."

Ugh, but as long as they move within the next 5 years I'll be happy.

This team and city have been given more chances than they deserve. History says the Coyotes won't succeed in Phoenix and I agree but who knows what the future will bring.

Congrats Bouw. Hopefully the team does well enough and the market returns the favour and gets behind the team.

Yeah. The few Coyotes fans I've seen are very passionate. (as evidenced by this thread) Hopefully they can build on this core of fans, now that they have stability.

I dunno. There have been flashes of potential in Arizona. The fact that they can organize a white out in the playoffs and the fact that taxpayers DID vote to keep the Coyotes suggest that there is a chance it will work.

If it doesn't work out, there had BETTER be a Coyotes/Jets playoff series before they move.

I must have missed it, all I remember is the council voting to keep the Coyotes. "flashes of potential" maybe but they've lost money every year in Phoenix.

I really have nothing against the Coyotes. It would certainly be nice to see support for that team grow from here on out.
