I don't think Chinese people are pathetic, but those are parts of life in China that I don't like. I have great admiration for some parts of Chinese culture and for some Chinese people, but there are good reasons for many Chinese to want out. Greed, inequality, corruption, and (to be in topic) lack of safe or reliable foods are all things that most Chinese have to live with a long as they're in China.

I had a squirrel soup in the jungles of Northeast Thailand, and it was the worst thing I have eaten. The only reason I didn't like it was because they kept the innards in the soup while cooking, which gave it a very bitter taste. Take the innards out and it was a delicious soup.

Aside from that soup, I will eat virtually anything, including the Lizard, Snake, Grubs and my favourite of all, Balut, I enjoyed on my trip.

I play it pretty safe when it comes to food and never venture very far out there.

Grossest thing I have seen eaten was the balut, gagged at the table it was awful. I hate normal eggs so this was on another level.

Cod tongues when I was a young lad on the rock was pretty bad. Not even a fish guy but my parents made me eat it as we were out to dinner at a friends. Got excused after the third or fourth large gag. It was very rubbery.

Chicken feet were gross just because they were actual chicken feet. Never been to dim sum before and a bunch of guys from my first job took me out to lunch and it was on the table. Being young I just thought they were like chicken fingers and bit into it pretty hard, right on a knuckle. It completely grossed me out. Guys had a good laugh at that. One of the guys was Roger Millions from back in the CFRN days. My cool story bro story...

Grossest thing I ever ate was in China, and I have no idea what it was. I bought it from a street vendor. Best I could describe it is cardboard in hot sauce. Tried to eat as much as I could because I was starving and it was late and night and most places were closed, but I paid for it with being sick for the next three days.

Hey i always wanted to know how white people eat spam. Do you just eat it right out of the can or do you heat it up, or cook it? I think i would puke if i ate it cold out of the can.

Chinese people cut them into thin slices and pan fried them crispy on both sides. Yumm!!! I think thats what i'll make for dinner tonite to go with some ichiban.

We don't.

Oh and something I found funny, a few years ago we had some relatives over from Wales and we cooked some corn on the cobb. They wouldn't eat any because they said that is what they feed to farm animals, haha.

Who cares if he's actually Chinese. He's a dink and just spams multiple threads. How the hell is he still here? He's gotta be trolling and if he's not, let him learn on another message board.

Spam is apparently really popular in Hawaii. I'm not a fan ... I like the saltiness, but there's a funky flavour in it I can't get past.

No one I know eats spam, therefore no white people eat spam. Obviously.

How would you know? It's not like spam is a dish that is prepared for at dinner parties or potlucks.

Because I just know? It's a gift.

It's sort of like spam.

When I was in China, and I am not sure what it was they were cooking in the streets, but it smelled like somebody deep frying human feces. My wife said it was tofu though. I am not sure if that was right, cause I couldn't imagine tofu smelling like that when deep fried, but it was so sickening that I gagged just at the slightest whiff of it.

I have to say that normally I am quite careful of what I eat, and haven't had much excuse to spit out food, maybe that's a survival instinct, but usually I will taste something with the tip of my tongue, and if it doesn't turn my stomache then it is safe to eat. Things that catch me off guard are food that have a surprising change in texture, like a crispy outside and then some slimy goo inside.

That said, when I was younger, we travelled to Seattle a lot and would buy random stuff that had cool looking pictures on the cans from a Chinese food market there. It was "braised eel in black bean sauce". It had sad in our cupboard for a couple of years until one day I was so hungry I figured I would crack it open. It's hard to describe the pungent, acrid taste it had, and the combinations of textures and flavours - gelatinous, dry, sweet, smokey.. it assaulted your taste buds in bad, bad ways. And that's that.

Sometimes canned salmon has a gaggy, spit-it-out response with the skin. Fish skin that isn't crispy is pretty gross.

That would be http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stinky_tofu

It is vile....last time I was in China it was in the news that some street vendors used feces to make it more pungent faster.

Yeah, my grandpa came to Canada from Holland and he still calls corn "pig feed". Also calls any kind of salad "rabbit food" though haha

Normally, I'm all about eating authentic cuisine, but Chinese is the only one where I prefer the "westernized white man" version over the authentic stuff. It's not necessarily the taste that's terrible (although sometimes it is), but the gelatinous or sticky/goopy texture that seems to permeate every dish. It's as if everything was prepared for a senior citizen with no teeth.
