Actually a decent group of centers there. I would love any of Hodgson, Stephan, Henrique, Andersson, Kadri, or Johansson.

After the Ranger signing I am really curious as to whether or not Franson is still in their plans. Right now the Leafs have 7 Dman with NHL contracts, Franson would make #8 and Kadri is the obvious higher priority for the Leafs to get back under contract.
Depending on how much of a raise Kadri gets there will not be very much cap space left to sign Franson.

Toronto is indeed in a strange position, I actually count 9 NHl d-men with:
Franson, Phaneuf, Gunnarsson, Liles, Brennan, Fraser, Gardiner, Holzer and Ranger, not to mention top prospect Rielly who might have hoped to crack the roster.
Surprised they didn't just buy out Liles instead of Grabovski, (and not signed Bozak) it would have solved some problems for them.

Surprised that Ullstrom went to Europe, I thought he was given a decent shot for the Isles, definitely have competition with other prospects but there are roster spots open.
Must be the money.

It's the Swedish factor.

No offer sheets unless it is giving up at most a 2nd rounder and the other team can't match

Only guy I would offersheet is Pietrangelo. He's worth the Shea Weber or the Ryan Suter contract.

No thanks. That would likely cost the flames 2 1st round picks with a 2nd and 3rd rounder also. The blues would match anything under $6.7 million so its not worth it.
Good chance flames are bottom 3 this year and barring a miracle will probably be bottom 5 in 2014/2015.

I agree 100% (at least regarding this group of RFA's).
But I would say Feaster should throw an offer sheet at pretty much ALL decent RFA players that can be had for a 2nd rounder or less that are on teams who may not be able to match.

Who would be those players? Not sure what the full list is, but i doubt the flames could get any of the players on the original post list for a 2nd round compensation without the other team matching.

Offer Sheets:
1) you overpay, as with free agents
AND
2) you have to give compensation in the form of draft picks
In and of themselves, they serve a purpose. But the Flames are simply not in a position where this makes sense for them.
To me, offer sheets make sense to a contending team, looking for that last piece. For them, the picks are likely to be late rounders.
The Flames are not going to be contenders for a few years, so giving up picks to acquire an expensive player makes NO sense.
The Flames are far better off ACQUIRING picks - who knows, one of those picks could turn out to be a better player than the offer sheet targeted.
For a guy like Pietrangelo, it is going to cost multiple firsts. Those firsts could conceivably include Ekblad AND MacDavid.

With Piet on your blueline you're not a last place team, that's the point. Those draft picks are worth it. This guy would be the best defender the Flames have had since Al McInnis.
Also, not directed at you but seeing too much of this "no point to this or that guy, because we're not going to be competitive for x amount of years." Ok, well you don't stop building your team because you have projected you're going to suck. You don't go full Edmonton and decide this is the year you're supposed to make the playoffs so now it's time to try and get some real players.
