Does anybody actually think Verizon would come in and drastically shock the pricing model?
They would likely mimic their offerings in the U.S., which are pretty much identical to what was proposed by the big 3 in their shift to a 2 year model.
If they come into the Canadian market it is because they are attracted by the large margins, they aren't going to come in and provide a value offer. Verizon is the "premium brand" in the U.S. and are priced as such, don't really expect that to change.
Prices will drop minimally, and we will just move to have a big 4 with 25% market share each, opposed to a big 3 with 33% market share each.
Won't be a bad thing as more choice is always good, and hopefully it would open up North American calling and roaming, but I wouldn't expect prices to suddenly drop by $20 just because Verizon is entering the market.

If anything, we would want T-Mobile to be the one stepping across the border and giving Wind or Mobilicity a shot in the arm.
Though it looks like the US is more than enough for them.

As someone else pointed out, if their big price break was roaming rates while in the US, that would be enough to convert a lot of people.

^^ And I think we are starting to see that. Rogers now has a reasonable rate for data roaming:
Get 50 MB of wireless internet per day for just $7.99
If Bell had that available I would probably grab it every time I went down.

When I go to the states I use my T-Mobile sim and get 500 MB of data for $2.50 a day.

Recently went to the States and through Bell the best deal was 50 mins, 50mb, and 200 texts for $50 for 30 days.
All Verizon needs to do is get rid of roaming state side and lots of people will come over. The big three would have to do something to entice people to stay.

No.
But more competition, especially from an outside source and not a "club" member of the big three would certainly help I would imagine. More competition is usually a good thing for the consumer.

Right now on Bell the US data rate is $6 per MB. Or if you want to pre-pay you can get 100MB for $40. So compared to those- $8 per day for 50 MB per day is reasonable.
Last week I had to turn on my data roaming to use Apple Maps. That one lookup only used 160 kb, however it cost me $1. To be able to just use my phone would be worth the price. I know that compared to my 6GB for $30 at home it's still expensive, but it's at least within reason.
I looked into the T-mobile sim, but then I need an unlocked phone. I haven't had luck with finding a reasonably priced unlocked phone, and Bell are being jerks about unlocking my phone.

Anyone hear the new ad on 960 today? It encouraged people to get the facts* about wireless prices in our country.
I think it was a CWTA ad - only caught a little bit of it.

Yup, they've had a big campaign going lately. Full page ads in the papers too.

They just changed it to $2 a day for unlimited talk text and data a couple months ago.

Admittedly confused about a lot of what's going on.
I'm currently with Koodo. I want to upgrade to Nexus 4; admittedly more confused by "Medium tab" and how to go about upgrading phone. I currently have a Samsung Galaxy Ace for about 2 yrs (crappy I know).
Any insight appreciated or if better off with another provider...

There are really 3 options:
1) Buy it outright and go with no tab but get 10% off of your bill.
2) Use the small tab to get $150 off the phone and 15% of your monthly bill will go towards paying back the tab.
3) Use the medium tab and get the $300 phone for free and 15% of your monthly bill will go against the tab amount, plus you have to pay a $5 a month charge that also goes against the $300 tab.
Option 1 doesn't really make a lot of sense if you're looking for a phone that they're selling, so I'd discount that. And basically the only difference between the small and medium tabs are that with the medium you're borrowing $150 more that you pay back in $5 installments. That and you have to go to a store to do it whereas the small tab you can just order it online.
Of course that all assumes you currently have a tab balance of $0. You'd have to adjust those numbers up or down if you already have a positive or negative balance.
Whether it makes sense to stick with them or go with another provider, you'd just have to do the math on the total costs over a 24 month period to compare. Just doing quick math between Rogers' leaked plans and Koodo's, and Rogers comes out about $15-20 more a month for a similar plan (unlimited with 1GB for Rogers and unlimited with 2GB for Koodo) over 24 months assuming an iPhone/S4 level device. So I doubt you'd come out ahead with the standard Rogers/Bell/Telus plans, but Fido or Virgin might offer something better.

Except a Nexus 4 is much cheaper through Google Play than through Wind, plus it is unlocked.
edit: Actually, come to think of it, are the ones from Wind unlocked as well?

I was referring to Koodo. They actually sell an unlocked 16GB Nexus 4 for $60 cheaper than Google does:
https://shop.koodomobile.com/koodo-c...GNEXUS4BK.html
Which is odd because all of Koodo's other phones are a little overpriced relative to what they normally cost outright.

They're all manufacturer unlocked being a Nexus device.

TELUS is making good on its rhetoric to force the federal government to clarify new rules on spectrum license transfers.
The network provider says that the Industry Minister’s need to personally approve each license transfer, in order to prevent undue spectrum concentration, will inevitably prolong the moratorium on spectrum deals between the incumbents and financially-starved new entrants.

I have no sympathy for these guys. Just heard a radio ad last night and was laughing at how pathetic their whole "It's not fair!" message is.
They bully Wind and Moblicity with Chatr and KooDoo, and when a bigger bully comes along they start crying tears. They effectivly used their market share to drive the start ups into ruin, and tried to buy them out. Very preditory, and the goverent isn't stupid to see that either.
Now this, they are blocking a new provider that will allow you to pay for only what you use.
http://www.cbc.ca/m/touch/news/story...ile-phone.html
I say good on the gov't for not bending to these preditory husslers.
