Cowboy culture is in all of Western North America.
We immigrated to Canada from the Middle East about 24 years ago and it was a difficult adjustment. Now after so many years, we've come to realize that it was the best decision we ever made. It's going to be hard, there will be days that you wish you can go back to China, but trust me, Calgary is an awesome city and Canada is a great country.

I kept waiting for the punchline of jokes on cp with each consecutive post I just read.
The use of bit**** had me cracking up pretty good.
Understandably that each post's english gets better however is it a language thing to drop a capital letter in the middle of a word? Serious question....
Qiang, good luck...based on what you have told us, you could show up here with nothing but your suitcase and create a happier life within 6 months. Calgary is a great place to live and a place I am always happy to come home to after travelling!

I am Chinese and I know that many of my friends/family in Asia are able to read/write in English because of the Internet and how they are taught in school but they are not able to speak English in person.
How is your ability to speak English? That will be the biggest barrier to finding a job.
You definitely will not have any problems finding large groups of mainland or mandarin speakers in Calgary. It used to be predominantly Cantonese 10 years ago but I only hear Mandarin here now, every where I go.
From my experience in the corporate culture in Calgary, I find a lot of professionals (engineers, architects, etc.) from mainland China always seem to stay together and often ignore other co-workers or avoid speaking English as much as possible in the workplace. I would recommend that if you do come to Calgary, to try to avoid this.

Only if you can treat them all equally..... so if you treat them all like garbage equally then it's all good.
But seriously, I have only met a couple of people in my life with more than one wife and they're usually of the older generation.

With your degree I would get in touch with the technical organizations here to see if your credentials will partially transfer over. If it is an Engineering degree APEGGA is who you would talk to. Not sure if it is just an Architecture degree.
Even if they don't recognize the full degree they may just assess you several exams before giving you your designation. Another option with most professional organizations would be to due a Master's degree, as short as 1 year, to get a degree from a Canadian institution and then you would be qualified for entry in the professional organizations.
