Smoking banned near playgrounds...effective Thursday

This is a stupid law designed to punish smokers. It is not designed to protect children. Idling cars while waiting to pick up children next to the soccer field is probably more polluting and toxic to kids. The Zamboni emmissions in a rink are probably worse. Most people who smoke are courteous enough to move away a bit before lighting up so I dont see what here is. For the record I am a non smoker.

Let people smoke outside

Wow, of all the smoking threads, I genuinely thought this one would be unanimously in favour of the smoking ban, and yet here we are.

Got anything to back that up?

A modern car emits 100,000 times less toxic emissions in some respect than a car from 40 years ago. How much safer has smoking become in 40 years? Does smoking serve any useful purpose like a car or an ice resurfacing machine?
