Man, I love Slurpees.
I'd totally take a $36m contract to play hockey in Winnipeg for the next couple of years.

36 million divided by the average cost of a Slurpee ($1.89) means he can buy 19,047,619 Slurpees over the next 7 years.
That's a lot of slush.

Quite the slush fund indeed.
Can Phoenix support a second team?

Jets have jumped from 4th lowest in Cap space to the 10th highest in a week. That is a lot of spending.

The Jets are have amassed an impressive young core, while failing to fill the 2 most important positions...
1. Dominate C
2. Dominate G
It could be said a winning team can be built missing one of those pieces, but both???
I like Pavelec, but he's average by NHL starting G standards, perhaps even slightly below average.
And who has been there top C?... Jokinen? Antropov? Little?
That team isn't going anywhere anytime soon without a surprise trade or a player like Scheiffle progressing beyond expectations.

So what is your definition of "soon". From no playoffs to contender in a year? or would that be a silly prediction for anybody to make? I guess if the jets' goal was to be a cup contender next year then your statement would be a real shake up for all of us.
or is Scheiffle being a "dominate" centre 3-4 years after he is drafted, with the rest of the core at their peaks, a much more realistic long term vision?
I also think Pavelec will be a fine goalie to have in that same time frame which will be right around when Trouba and Bogo should/could be a top level 1 and 2 D in the league. I think we have seen plenty of examples of goalies who are top 15 in the league but excel with a top 5 in the league D pairing

So if i understand this right....the Jets are going into this season with almost the identical team that didnt make the playoffs the last 2 seasons?
Interesting decision.
That being said...this particular deal isnt that bad IMO...Bogosian is a rock solid player and should continue to get better. Good job by Cheveldayoff.

Minus wellwood, hainsey, Antropov, Mietenen
Add Setoguchi, Frolik, Trouba and Schiefele. And of course Adam Pardy....

Not a horrible deal for the Jets, overpayment now but has a chance to be a steal In a few years if he improves. Of course it could go the other way too.

With the Jets being a cap team and the Flames being close to the cap floor isn't it time to move on taking advantage of this?
What sort of draft picks prospects would the Flames take for Burmistrov? They obviously can't afford to sign him (cap-wise) out of the KHL to even a reasonable NHL contract and his agent figured it out.
Jokinen..... the last "dominate" 60 pt centre on the Flames is the only really bad contract on the Jets ..... I personally would not want the Flames to take on Enstrom's 5.75 but if Brodie hits 50 pts the next 2 seasons he will be making the same.
Ladd Little Wheeler
Setegouchi Jokinen Kane
Frolik,Scheifele,Halischuk
Pellusso,Slater, Thornburn
Tangradi, Lowry,Wright
Byfuglien, Stuart
Bogosian, Enstrom
Clitsome, Trouba
Postma, Pardy
Pavelec
Montoya
That is one big young line-up
Over 30+ Jokinen (34), Thornburn (30)
tiny players - Enstrom 5-10 180, Little 5-11 185, Halischuck 5-11 180
Glad they are not in the Pacific division.

just to put thsi in perspective, zach has averaged about .3 points per game over his NHL career. Over the course of a season that projects to about 25 points.
25 points guys now get deals that average $5.0 annually. yikes!!!! i can only wonder what kind of deal wayner would get these days if he was a UFA coming off of a 180 point season.
Why are the players fighting the salary cap if the above is the end result?

Surprised you're not labeling Setoguchi as a small player.
If Flames were to jump on anything, it would have already happened but as Jets already having dealed with their core, look to be in a good position to grow from.

15 hits in 5 playoff games .... 92 hits in 48 regular season games...... 6-0 205
On the Flames he would be an enforcer ..... almost Stempniak tough
Stempniak's 9 goals 32 pts +2 for 2.5M /year has earned him a spot in the hearts of the CP fan boys. Setegouchi gets 13 goals 27 pts +5 at 3M/year gets him traded to the Jets for 2nd round pick.

This contract does not help St. L dealing with Pietroangelo
Bogosian 5.1 for 7 years...... Pietroangelo should be 7-8M for the same term.
St.L is going to regret signing Roy at 4M when they could have had Mason Raymond for 1-2M. Bouwmeester's 6.8 is also going hurt more than they thought.

What a great spot for Scheifele to develop...on a 3rd line with Frolik and Halischuk...that seems fairly ideal...a couple of players with 2-way game and great work ethic..both good skaters...great opportunity for him.
And I'm sure there'll be spells where he can swap with Jokinen to play with Kane.
