Race for the Galaxy Beta Underway Thomas Lehmann's classic card game, Race for the Galaxy, has just entered beta. Before you get all excited, however, let me remind you that it's Goko that's doing this one. For those not familiar with Goko, let's just say the release of their Dominion product wasn't the smoothest launch in history. I guess we'll see how this turns out and if they learned anything from Dominion.
This game idea was born when Rami and Guy were discussing how hard it is for students to learn swordsmanship terminology and theory. So we thought about flash cards, and suddenly it came to us - a card game that is fun to play, and at the same time imparts real knowledge of our martial heritage.

I'm sure it's been mentioned already, but Settlers of Catan f***ing rules! I first played it a few months ago with some friends and since almost everyone I talk to loves it. How did I not hear about it until now when almost all of my friends play it? :S

Probably because you are cool.
Settlers is a good gateway game - much better games await if you are up to the challenge.

Yeah I think the nerdy stigma of something like Settlers definitely prevents people from admitting they like it, but as someone who has played much nerdier things with the same people (Warhammer, mageKnight, etc..) it seems odd that I never came across it until now.
My economics background makes me love the bartering part of it.
My buddies and I have been playing Pandemic lately, and it's pretty good.
I played it for the first time a few weeks ago and I LOVED it. There are very few games that are cooperative like that. The odds are continuously stacked against you and you have to figure out a way as a group to overcome them.
That and I'm a huge public health/science nerd...so that helped.

I love Pandemic as well - great game. Once in a while you'll get the Alpha male who tries to take control of a game and tell everyone what their moves are - shut that #### down quickly.

Vanillia, C&K, Seafarers, Gold coin or another rules change up version?

Netrunner is a lot of fun, but I'm terrible at it. Love the theme, great game.
Played a few games of the resistance, loads of fun. It's like werewolf but without player elimination.
Innovation was pretty cool but it's a bit difficult to get your head around. Game ended a bit too quickly due to an experienced player knowing what to do and the rest of us practically flying blind. Might give it another go.
Elder Sign is a great pared-down version of arkham horror, plays fairly quickly. Had a lot of fun but we won pretty lopsidedly - with the new expansion - so despite that I think the game is a bit flawed mechanically.
Hope to play some more Netrunner and maybe take a crack at eldritch horror and cosmic Encounter

The last few weeks our group has been playing Wallenstein.
Really fun game, but we're finding it takes almost 5 hours for a 5 player game. We're going to need to come up with a timer to force people to be a bit faster.
So I've been enjoying playing Ticket to Ride with the Nephews aged 8 and 11. Is this a kids game? I bought in now but would adults enjoy playing with other adults? Has anyone here played this game?
