But isn't people's opinion of "leisure opportunities" subjective?

Arbour Lake rises form second in 2012 to first in 2013. I always find the results dubious. I've lived in Arbour Lake for a decade and I am acutally suprised it ranks this high. My personal favorite is Lakeview by the Glenmore reservoir. Also, Scenice Acres is just on the other side of Crowchild and it rankes much lower than Arbour Lake, go figures. |
+1

I grew up in Lakeview (North Glenmore Park more specifically) and it's Calgary's best community. And I'm nonobjective as hell. Opinions are like that.

The best part of being lakefront in Arbour Lake are the CT and school buses passing by your house all day.

I think humans are fairly settled on the matter, actually. People vacation by lakes/oceans all the time and have for thousands of years. To have one in your community is objectively awesome.

Umm no, it appears to be your opinion that all of those things are true, but that does not make any of them facts, which means it's certainly not objective.

Has anyone ever explained to you what objective means?

Subjectively is what you meant to say. Please explain how an opinion is objective. I know you love tilting at windmills, so you are welcome.

Ok, guys. We all know that Sliver is generally unable to see things from other peoples' points of view and he thinks that what is good for him should be good for everybody.

It's not an opinion I'm sharing; it's a judgement of facts free from bias, which is why I used the word objective. The fact is, given there is no material cost difference between a lake community and a non-lake community, it is better to live in a community with a lake.

I prefer to spend my leisure time biking, going for walks, golfing, fly fishing in the river, reading in the park & jogging. None of those have anything to do with a lake. To say that lake communities offer more leisure than non lake communities is ridiculous as it's totally up to the individual and what they enjoy to do. I have a friend who lives in McKenzie Lake and has been to the lake once since moving there 3 years ago because it's just not his thing.

Glad to see that Bridgeland snuck in there. Definitely starting to get its due. Give it another 4 or 5 years of Bridges development and its going to be one of the most desirable places in the city to live.

No, that's an opinion. Stop being intentionally dense.

I'd never live in a lake community in Calgary. It has no appeal for me regardless of cost. I'd much rather live in many communities, none of which have lakes, than Bonavista or any of the other 'lake communities'.

Maybe if these weren't actually "pond" communities, you'd have a point. Even then, I don't care at all about the "leisure opportunities" of a pond, and care quite a lot about having plenty of dining, shopping, and boozing within walking distance, so your 'objective" measurement is shown to be entirely subjective.

Nobody is saying that having a pond to splash around in is a bad thing. It's just not enough to elevate another mediocre suburb into one of the "best" communities on offer.

To make a car analogy, which I think is unassailable argumentation on the internet, you're like a guy who says "Big engines are an objectively better component in a car, because they make you go faster. Therefore, all cars with big engines are better than cars with small engines". Well, ok, but what if you don't care about going fast? Or what if another car goes faster with a smaller but more efficient engine? Or what if you value speed, but also value handling? You can't just say "x is objectively good, therefore any set including x is necessarily better than any set not including x". Well - I guess you can, but you look like a fool if you do.

LOL, and about the lake. As someone who spent my entire youth in Lake Bonavista. Calling it a lake is a stretch. Band-Aid and diaper filled pond would be more accurate. My neighbour had a pool in lake Bonavista, we used it almost every day in the summer, and used the lake only in the winter for hockey. But even then we usually ended up at the hockey rink at Andrew Sibbald, it was better ice, and had boards. Tennis, whoopity do? Who actually cares about tennis?
I agree Lake Bonavista is a beautiful little community Sliver, I actually hope to live there again one day. But right now there is also a lot of old, run down, poorly maintained eyesores for houses there. There is some new communities that are amazing in their own right. Just because there is a man made hole filled with water there, doesn't make it Teh Bestest EVAR! Just because YOU live there, doesn't make it the best either.

That's true, but in every one of my posts I'm clear that is the opportunity for leisure that is the bonus of a lake community. Having a lake doesn't mean you don't have golf, bike paths, parks, etc. It means you have those and you have a lake. And you don't pay any material amount more for it. It's weird you guys don't see that's better than not having a lake.
