GAME #5 : STAMPEDERS at Winnipeg Blue Bombers
What a comeback by the Stampeders last week against the Alouettes. Kind of dissapointed with their start behind 24-0 after the first quarter. Offense did not get a first down until the 2nd quarter. Offense, Defense and even the Special Teamers were caught flat-footed in the first quarter. Give them credit for the great comeback starting from 2nd quarter.
OFFENSE :
Well, 2 more offensive starters went down last week but the guys who replaced them did an admirably job. First WR Joe West went down with the shoulder injury after trying to catch the ball on the end zone. Then the gutsy play by QB Kevin Glenn put him down as well. Glenn managed to throw the ball to Marquay McDaniel even though he knew a Montreal defender is going for a big hit. That was a gutsy play and one of the most important play on that game.
Stamps OLine group need to step up their game tonight playing against the sack happy Winnipeg Blue Bombers defense. Led by Alex Hall(6 sacks), Kenny Mainor and Turner(3 each) and eight different Bombers defenders recorded at least one QB sack. They lead the CFL with 19 QB sacks.
Winnipeg defense also gave up the fewest rushing yardages in the league so OLine need to give Jon Cornish plenty of room and some time to run the ball. Of course, Stamps might start their third stringer QB Bo Levi Mitchell so it means extra protection.
Speaking of QB. Coach Hufnagel was saying one of Drew Tate or Bo Levi Mitchell will start the game. It is going to be a game time decision on deciding who will start. Everybody was leaning towards BLM starting though.
With WR Joe West and Maurice Price out of the lineup due to injury, Stamps is giving rookie WR Tim Hawthorne and veteran Riders castoff Greg Carr a chance to show everyone they belong in this league. Of course other receivers like Non-import WR Anthony Parker are getting the chance to excel. Last week Parker dropped the first ball thrown at him but made up for it on the next 3 ending up with 3 catches for 41 yards. SB Nik Lewis led the team in receiving with 5 catches for 41 yards and 1 TD.
DEFENSE :
Can the Stamps defense match the Bombers QB sack tally? Not right now but I am sure they are so excited in tonight's game as they are going to be chasing a rookie QB Justin Goltz instead of an oft-injured QB Buck Pierce.
Bookends DLs Cordarro Law and Shawn Lemon are tied in 2nd place for Stamps most QB sacks with 2. All of Law's sacks was against Anthony Calvillo last week.
Stamps secondary were good last week shutting down Calvillo and company. I thought Quincy Butler played a heck of a game and almost had an interception. Keon Raymond almost had an interception as well. He bobbled the ball 5-6 times I believed before dropping it. It could have been an easy int TD for him.
SPECIAL TEAM :
Kicker Rene Paredes will get another chance to tie and break Paul McCallum 30 consecutive field goal. Paredes last FG attempt was blocked by Montreal but since the ball was blocked and recovered by Al's player before the scrimmage line, it was ruled as a fumble and not a missed field goal.
Play of the Week was none other than Fred Bennett's forced fumble late in the game. It looks like Devine will go all the way on the punt return but give a lot of credit to Fred Bennett for not quitting and continued chasing him. When he saw an exposed ball, he took a chance to punched the ball and he suceeded. If Devine scored on that play, it could have a different ballgame.
GO STAMPS GO!!!!

So do we have two guys making their first career start against one another? When was the last time that happened?

Hopefully, I want to see if he is worthy to save in the expansion draft.

TD Greg Carr!!
BLM threw a couple of good ones there. First 55 yarders to Tim Hawthorne then a TD pass to Carr.

Rod Black is a dumbaass. Not even one quarter done and he has already made 3 or 4 mistakes. TSN could do us all a favor and fire his ass.
What's with all the head-bobbing by Brett Jones. That should be procedure.

Why aren't we blitzing this punk on every down?
Rod Black really wants the Bombers to succeed.

Score flatters WIN. They were helped by a broken play and face mask, and a bad punt.

1st half is over. Calgary 17-14.
Pretty good game for both young QBs on their first start. I have to give BLM the edge on this half over Goltz. Early on Goltz never really have any pressure from Calgary defense while Winnipeg D keeps on coming. OLine need to stay focus and even step it up a bit.
Rene 'El Matador' Paredes tied & broke the record in this half. He's now have 32 and keeps on going. Cornish is starting to pick up his game and BLM spreading the ball. He completed passes to 7 receivers(Lewis, Carr, McDaniel, Arthur, Parker, Cornish & Hawthorne). Looks like Sinopli is the only one who hasn't touch the ball so I think he is due soon. With the running game starting to pick up as well, i can see receiver like Sinopli will get open more.
Stamps need to pressure Goltz and make him run around. I think he's got a good arm. Defense tackling needs to be better. A lot of holes there. As for offense, so far so good but still need improvement.
Stay away from penalties boys!!
