Yeah, I fired off an email to Kirch... I'm hoping the station thinks outside the box. I'm tired of hearing former NHL-players who have trouble coming up with varied sentence structure and clearly don't know the players and organization like Peterson.
I don't understand the requirement the colour person needs to have played. If that's really a requirement, then Cassie Campbell was perfect when she was on the Fan960. She knew more about the team and players than the guys she was working with, and she played at a level higher than every guy she was working with. Thinking back to her commentary during her radio stint here, makes me think how under utilized she is on HNIC. She should be in the broadcast booth as she's better than the people there now.
Always liked Rogers but I don't think his style is great for fans of a young rebuilding team that will probably loose a lot, I wouldn't shocked to hear he was asked "to retire".

I am probably missing the green text here but in case not, the reason for wanting an ex-player/ex-coach is most people want some insight/insider information and not someone with the same level of knowledge of the average fan.
As for Campbell my guess is to why she is not used more is because she is awful. She is a poor/awkward speaker and offers very little insight into what is going on. It is borderline saying that she played at a higher level than others on the fan in terms of quality of hockey and womens hockey is so far removed from the NHL game may as well have a former NFLer on the FAN talking about the game since he played a game at a "high level."
Again if I missed the green text here then ignore if it was serious I could not disagree with the post more. Less Campbell on any platform is good for hockey fans and a big no thanks to Torie Peterson who has shown no ability to do that type of job at all.

That would be fine if the ex nhl player offered actual insight. Few do (rogers did). Most recycle the same canned answers.
Im for going outside the box on this, even for just one season.
If Monday Night Football can bring in a comedian, then the flames radio broadcast can surely bring in a well prepared female colour commentator

You may be on to something. Boomer let it slip this morning that Mike told it like it was and wasn't afraid to criticize which bothered the Flames who asked him to tone it down and he wouldn't back down.
We all know that Edwards and the owners were terrified of a rebuild and what could happen to attendance. I wouldn't be surprised if they wanted to bring in a more positive voice while the team was going through growing pains. I hope that we are wrong here as I will have a hard time stomaching the kool aid dousing that Oilers fans have been subjected to in Edmonton. I personally find it insulting to fans but given the lack of faith the ownership seems have in Flames fans I wouldn't be shocked if there is truth to this.

Sure there are terrible ex-players out there I will agree but as much as I liked Tony Kornheiser him and Dennis Miller were disasters as color commentators because they didn't have the football knowledge to keep up and the jokes get tiresome during the broadcast.
If there was a well prepared female colour commentator then sure bring her in but do it because she is the best option not to "think outside the box" or "do something different" because that is what leads to people like Cassie Campbell getting jobs she is nowhere near qualified to do and ends up looking horrible doing it.
I dont think cassie cambell is near as bad as you suggest Moon. If anything she plays it "safe", but i think she would do great if given the opportunity.
As an aside, i doubt she would go from tv to radio though.

It is really hard to think of candidates. You have to remember that the job is demanding and the pay is not great. Add in all the travel and you basically eliminate some strong choices that are both local and have ties to the team (Perry Berezan, etc). Those guys aren’t going to give up well paying jobs and their family life for this type of job.
I think we could see someone come from outside the market, an ex-player focused on their broadcasting career and looking to make that next step.

I find her very wooden or robotic. It seems like you can see the cards that she is reading directly off of and like Ron Burgundy she will just say whatever is there rather than think of an original thought herself.
I have also yet to hear an insightful/interesting thought about hockey from her yet although I do now turn off the radio if she is on the FAN so may have missed one.
Like Loubardias her on the radio would make me consider whether or not I want to listen to the game even though I love listening to it but I agree can't see her leaving a cushy CBC job for the FAN.
Ryan Pinder is that guy filling for Pat on 960 he is the voice of the Abbotsford Heat. He would have been a good fit for Rogers now vacant job. I like the way the guy comes across on air.
I really hope they go with Cassie Campbell. Then she can use the staple ex-female-athlete-sports-broadcaster from CBC term, and analyze every single play as a 'gutsy performance'. Like really she could do this about 450 times a game.
"See how Giordano made that crisp first pass up the ice? That was a gutsy performance."
"Yes, the decision to put Cammy on the opposite wing on that draw was a gutsy one by the coach."
"Very Gutsy performance by the Zamboni driver during the intermission."
I am pretty sure when you are an ex-clam athlete hired by CBC, the training manual they hand you is just 130 pages of the word 'gutsy performance' stylistically written Jack Torrance style because someone at CBC things it is the greatest term ever.
If they hire her, I'll boycott the Flames, sell all my belonings, quit my job, and leave the city forever. Please god no.
As long as it is not Simmer, I find he just sucks the life out of broadcasts...

I’m always amazed these sportscasters and announcers can call the game with McDavid’s **** in their mouths all the time.

It really is a different skill though. Professional broadcasters are almost always put in the play by play or host role. The color position is almost always someone tied directly to the game - former GMs, Coaches and players.

Mike Rogers joins us now on @Sportsnet960. Officially retired from the broadcasting game. #Flames

I think it will be the Franchise, Eric Francis. Doesn't hold back his comments similar to Rogers, except he likes to stir the #### a bit too much. Plus Sportsnet loves this guy for whatever reason.
