Default Where to donate furniture?

My wife and I are looking to donate a good amount of furniture we no longer use to High River or other flood affected residents.

Does anyone know where furniture can be taken?

I don't really want to place individual Kijiji ads or similar - would rather take it all to someone who can distribute to needy families as required.

Thanks

Oh. I was going to say the Women In Need Society (WINS) has a big location in Dover that takes furniture. Or you can call and they'll send a truck to pick it up from you directly.

Not really flood related, however.

WINS is still a great idea. There are lots of people that were in need long before the flood. When you think about it, the flood affected people that weren't really in need, but now they are. I'm not sure that necessarily makes them better candidates for donations. Their lives have only sucked for a few weeks, whereas other peoples' lives have sucked for much longer. Not that I don't feel bad for flood victims, just hoping that good furniture goes to living rooms before it goes to rebuilding basements. I'm going to shut up now.

Again, not necessarily flood related, but I have gotten into the habit of donating most of my things to the Drop-In Centre. They'll accept clothes (obviously), but also household items, including furniture. When someone "graduates" from the DI, they get to go to the warehouse and pick out some things to help them get a fresh start in their new place.

They're very nice and appreciative there, and you can just drive up to the loading dock and staff will come out right away and unload for you. They also have a truck to pick-up things (they came and got my old washing machine), but there is a bit of a wait for that. They'll schedule a day and time with you though. I'd call ahead, however, just to be sure they're able to receive everything. They were hit by the floods as well, and on my last trip down there, they were repairing the old, auxiliary building.

Women in Need is also a good place, however I would recommend calling ahead with such a large donation as they have limited space (at the Bowness location, at least). They'll probably be able to make a special arrangement.

There are plenty of worthy charities for sure. Your decision to donate will be appreciated by whoever receives it!

I agree. I just didn't want it to seem like I was suggesting "screw those flood victims, go to WINS!"
