I don't think that changes anything.

Many in this thread already said that it was likely that she was emotionally/mentally disturbed and this was probably just the tipping point. But that's exactly it... when you play a practical joke on a random stranger, you don't know if that person is able to handle the joke being played on them. Take someone with repeated suicide attempts, play a joke on them that you know will cause a media sensation and it ends badly. Sure they didn't know that she was unstable, but those are the chances you take when you play with matches.

Semantics maybe, but her children are technically not orphaned unless something happened to her husband.

If you take this one step further, should we just avoid small talk with random strangers because something in the conversation might set them off?

Nobody wins here, but making the DJs the scapegoat for this lady's problems isn't really fair.

And let me be honest, I hate radio DJs. Radio would be infinitely better if they were not part of it.
