I had a dream about Monahan over the weekend. In my dream, he (well, we) made the team right out of camp. He displayed strong leadership skills, was strong defensively, and was really becoming an elite player. The fans and media were really warming up to him. Then I woke up.
But it gave me hope that he will become the player we all want him to be.

Wow... I thought it was buffering, but I just realized that it was actually intentional where they stop the vid to highlight Monahan on the ice.

Everyone talks about Monahan skating but what I noticed in these videos is that he doesn't look slow. He looks like he skates with power. Big strong strides which looks a lot like Marian Hossa.

Sounds like some people have been disappointed that Monahan hasn't stood out more in the prospects scrimmages and games. Yet he's consistently puts up points and is a plus player. I'm not sure what people are expecting as he's looked as advertised to me. A very smart two way player who always makes the right play. Reminds me of Langkow, who also wasn't the fastest skater or most noticeable on the ice, but was a heck of a player. With the added size, Monahan has more upside potential, but if he continues to perform like Langkow, I'd be very happy.

I hope the Flames take their time with Monahan. I can see his development taking a similar path as Jason Spezza's. Get a few games this season, go down to abby to develop. Next year, a few more games to assess his development and then up full time in the 3rd year of his deal and in a position to br the bonafide #1C and learning how to become the leader of this franchise.
