I wonder if he even gets an invite to camp? Have to think the odds of him making the team are very very slim.
I remember the outrage on CP when TSN did not have Iggy on the team. LOL.

If he played in the World Championships, he probably would have.
As an aside, interesting to see Cory Sarich has been captain for Team Canada once.

Eh. Iggy set up the biggest hockey goal of the last decade. That's a lot better than being named captain.

Biggest goal for Canada sure, but I am sure most players would rather score game winning goals in the Stanley Cup finals instead.

Actually, they played on NHL ice last Olympics. They'll be playing on international ice this time.

Nash is so over rated it's funny. The guy has skill but I don't think I'd have him on the team, especially after how he's been playing. I guess it boils down to how he's doing at the time because it should be about "what have you done for me lately" over "what have you done in the past" The best players at the time need to be on the team, not the ones with a great past otherwise someone like Brad Richards would go over Giroux

What the heck my totally wild guess at Canada's roster:
Tavares- Crosby- Giroux
Nash- Staal- St.Louis
Mike Richards- Toews- Bergeron.
Been- Thornton- Couture
Duchene/Marchand
Weber- Keith
Peitrangelo- Doughty
Seabrook- Girardi
Staal/ Burns
Price
Luongo
Crawford

i do not think that Subban should be rated that high. Rick Nash is over rated IMO. the only way that Iginla will be back is if he starts lighting it up. just my honest opinion

Whoops, I knew I was forgetting somebody who should be a virtual lock for the team. Replace Thornton with Stamkos.
I really don't feel like adjusting my lines, plus I already want to make changes to the roster with 4 or 5 guys coming off in place of other guys. Good grief, Canada produces some quality players. Also, I hate to be the guys putting the team together.

"What have you done for me lately?" Seriously?
He put up 0.95 points per game, and a 39 goal pace. This season.
Unless by 'lately' you mean 'in your last playoff series', but since that would mean that Crosby should be cut and replaced by that Pageau kid from the Sens, maybe we should be a little more sensible than that.

You aren't serious, are you?
Iginla played in three Olympics 2002, 2006, and 2010.
2002 Captain - Mario Lemieux
Iginla was 24 at the time and just emerging as an elite talent. At the start of the season he wasn't even on the Olympic radar until an injury happened prior to camp. Though I don't think you're suggesting he should have been captain on this team.
2006 captain - Joe Sakic
Sakic is generally considered one of the greatest leaders to play the game. Iginla wore an A along side guys like Pronger and Rob Blake. Nothing to be ashamed about here.
2010 captain - Scott Niedermayer
Again, considered of the greatest leaders and players to play the game. Iginla again wore the A for Canada.
I know some people like to chastise Iginla for not going to the World Championship besides 1997... but there is no way Team Canada would have made him captain over guys like Mario Lemiuex, Joe Sakic and Scott Neidermayer because he played in a 3rd rate tournament like the World Championships. There was talk of him captaining the 2010 team but they went with Niedermayer, nothing to be upset about there.
This is silly talk man. They only name one captain, it's no shame in being an assistant in two of his three Olympic team and what you're chalking it up to is lunacy.

For me, 2002 is more important then 1972, both are easily above 2010 though.
I was 20 in 2002 though and 1972 meant nothing to me besides history but I think these two are neck-and-neck. If you remember the "crisis" Canada hockey was at the time and how much pressure this team had on them, the Gretzky speech... it was a legendary games.

Obviously die-hard Oiler's Fan
Just admit you are an Oiler's fan then readers can understand why you want Schultz on the team. At least the poster wanting Hall on team had guts to indicate he is an Oiler fan.

I think we're both saying the same thing. Maybe I should have been clear, I didn't say if he played in the WC, he would be a captain in the Olympics. I was saying if he played in the WC, he would be a "C" in the WC. Its part of the reason I looked up the WJC since I know he had a big tourny, but the C there was the guy we almost got instead of Iginla. Which is where I saw Sarich was captain the next year, and commented on that. In the Olympics, his only chance was 2010, which I thought should have gone to Crosby anyways. Nothing wrong with him not having a "C".
Also, like you... 2002 finals was probably the most epic game I had ever watched besides the 2004 Game 7 vs Vancouver... 2010 was anti-climatic to me. Great setup by Iginla, but I'll always remember that game more as the one that Luongo almost blew it for us.

Yeah, definitely. Luongo and Scott Niedermayer too honestly. He had a brutal giveaway in OT that almost cost Canada the gold medal.
2002 was epic... the entire state of Canadian hockey was being questioned for years leading up to this. The choke job in the '96 World Cup of Hoceky, the total failure of '98 in Nagano and the emergence of the dominating Czech Rebublic had everyone wondering what was wrong with Canadian hockey.
2002 brought back a lot of pride for Canadian hockey and is one of the best moments for Canada on the international stage. The old timers can have their '72, but for me it's 2002.
It's certainly debatable though and anyone making boneheaded definite statements is a moron.
