13 in scoring last season. He already outscores all but a handful of defencemen.

I've seen enough of Buowmeester to know he shouldn't be on the team. At least Schultz can put the puck in the net. His wrister is probably harder than Buow's slapper.

Why on earth would TC need a 1 dimensional pp specialist?

That lineup doesn't scream "offensively challenged" to me

The point is, there are a lot of other Canadian defensemen that can put the puck in the net AND do everything else very well to exceptional. Shea Weber, Drew Doughty, Alex Pietrangelo, Duncan Keith, Brent Sea Brook all with equal or better offensive instincts and far superior defensive, neutral zone, and transitional play than Schultz.

Schultz may get to camp because Kevin Lowe will scream and stomp and cry until he does, but he won't be much further than that unless he takes huge strides over the summer.

Behind Letang, Subban, Weber. And only slightly ahead of Pietrangelo, Doughty, Green and Bouwmeester. A bit ahead of Seabrook. All of those players are better defensively than him and that was a shortened season. Add in Boyle.

Canada has enough good two-way guys that there is no chance they take a one-dimensional player like Schultz. If they take an offensive defenseman it'll be a guy like Subban or Letang.

Sorry but you're completely out to lunch on this one.

I honestly thought he must have meant Jeff or Nick Schultz at first; Justin Schultz wouldn't even make Canada's B team, or possibly even the C team.

Not saying he's a terrible player, but let's get serious here, they don't want a completely inexperienced one dimensional dman on the team. Might as well take Marc-Andre Bergeron for the same reasons.

Apparently the camp invites will be announced tomorrow.

Biggest question mark will be in Goal. Hearing RLuongo, CPrice, CCrawford, MSmith and BHoltby will be invitees to camp.#Sochi2014

No Cam Ward, is he still battling injuries? Sort of surprised both Brodeur and Fleury aren't being invited either.

I can agree with the bold being a surprise. Fleury tho was never going to get a sniff.

Mike Smith might end up being our best bet

Quite the fall from grace though; from being on the roster in 2010, to not being on the radar only four years later while still in his prime years.

Ya, I can't really recall someone dropping so far so quickly. Granted he really has nobody to blame but himself with his performances the past couple of years.

Not sure a system goalie like smith is what we need.

He might actually be my top choice... Very big and really consistent... Canada needs someone to stand in there and not lose them the game.

Luongo is my #1, I guess...I love to hate him like everyone else, but he's somehow managed to turn very underrated now...even his own team labeled him a #2 when he's the better G, in my book

Luongo
Price
Smith

I'll put Price as #2 just based on a hunch he'll bounce back and be the hottest Canadian G at the New Year.

This thread is like the outlet in which to release all of the dumb that CP has been saving up over the off-season.

"Rick Nash totally struggled, he's way past his prime and was only a point-per-game player and on pace for like 39 goals this year."

"This could be the best Team Canada we've seen in my lifetime... and I'm almost 3 and a half years old."

"I'm pretty sure one or more of the teenagers drafted this summer will beat out established NHL All-Stars with previous Olympic gold medals and recent top-3 finishes for NHL awards"

"Do you know who *I* want to see holding the line against Datsyuk, Malkin, Ovechkin, Markov, and Gonchar? Justin Schultz."

"Brent Seabrook is the best defenceman on his team."

"PK Subban should be on the team because the professional hockey writers said he's the best. The same guys who said Ovechkin was the best player in a position he didn't play this year."

"Justin Schultz is good enough to make the Canadian Olympic Team."

The Schultz thing still baffles me

at this point he's offense only (and even then he doesn't make the top 8-10), the team Canada chooses is basically going to be one where of the 7-8 D men chosen all but 1 are likely the PP QB for their team, and all of them are good if not elite in their own end

There is only one person suggesting it.

People are welcome to their opinions, but thinking Schultz has a chance is just flat out wrong

Its not, but who do we got? Luongo, Fleury? Its 50/50 whether they'll have a bad day at the wrong time. Mike Smith can be like our Sean Burke, he's not spectacular but you know what you're gonna get and he probably won't get lite up like a christmas tree.

Except Nash has only had an actual PPG season once in his career. Granted Nash did play well in the regular season last season, but he was absolutely abysmal in the playoffs (1 goal in 12 playoff games).

It's a real shame we never got to see Iginla as the captain of Team Canada.
