I'm sure we'll get used to this eventually, it'll just take some time.

Glad the Flames isn't in it though!

I've just been referring to it as the western division. People have clued in pretty easily as to which one I'm speaking of, and in fact started referring to it as the West themselves.

The name fits fine
That is wrong.

Columbus - 800,000
Hempstead, NY - 800,000
NYC - 8,500,000
Newark - 300,000
Philly - 1,500,000
Pittsburgh - 300,000
Raleigh - 400,000
Washington, DC - 600,000

That's just over 13 Million and will drop once Hempstead is no longer in the division.

Or the East Division. After all it was never the Northwestern division or the Southeastern Division.

They should have a Cosmopolitan division as well.

Just for the Leafs, Canucks & Oilers.

I agree, Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal are all located in 'Central Canada'.

The divisions should not be named geographically since the teams involved are so spread out. Should be named after people, be it the old names in the 80s or named after other hockey greats.

Yeah, let's have the Eastern division in the Eastern conference. Cuz that's not dumb or redundant at all

IIRC, it had something to do with Bettman & Co. believing that regional names for divisions would make it easy for the "new" sunbelt fans to relate to.

They should name the divisons after disgraced Canadian ex-role models.

The Ben Johnson Division
The Steve Fonyo Division
The Chris Benoit Division
The Bobby Hull Division

Also went from 4 divisions to 6, so changes had to be made regardless.

Also, the Flames, in their 5 years previously in the Pacific Divsion, won it twice, and made the playoffs one other year.

If the criteria of naming a division is that you only need two teams relevant to the name of the division, why not call it the Welfare Division, or the Life Support Division? In fact the Equalisation Payment Division would be more appropriate - that way you'd know which two teams led to the cluster#### that this truly is.

Who cares we are in the pacific division now and that's what matters.

I don't watch games and go hey today is a metropolitan division game. Only time it comes into play is when the ridiculous playoff format starts. That's the big issue. Same teams playing each other 12 times a year will get real boring real fast.
