Per year ??? Or total???
Either way, it seems off to me... Either a bit too high, or a screaming deal

Thats great but they still need to get under cap for 2013 -14. We can help and we want Read, take a bad deal (Meszaros) and Read at a discount for helping them out. Only question is what does Philly want from us.

Seems about right. As much a Couturier holds tons of promise, he simply hasn't done anything yet to warrant bigger dollars. That's not a knock on him, he just hasn't broken out yet.
But if I was him, would have waited to see how this season went before signing an extension. Any kind of a breakout and he gets a better contract.

Why would his agent suggest he sign now, after an extremely poor season in Philly?
Should have let him bounce back next season and then ask for twice as much.

Not sure why people think that's a great deal. Its a fair deal. he hasn't shown next step offense or consistency since being the NHL. The next 2 years are a "show me years".

As a Flyers fan, I think with this signing that the Flyers may be open to moving Brayden Schenn for the right package. His cap hit is high this year but that is because of the last year on his ELC. I think they will try to make room for Laughton next year and go with Giroux, Couturier, Laughton and whomever for 4th line. Maybe the Flames could trade some of their signed 4/5/6 defencemen for Schenn (and possibly a crappy contract) and allow the Flyers to free up some cap space and playing time for other guys. This could work for both teams depending on the guys offered (Butler/Cundari/Breen?).
I know it doesn't look balanced or even from the Flyers side but the option of moving out some dollars for NHL defencemen at cheaper salaries may balance things out, even if the Flames have to include Backlund as part of the package.

We should target a kid like this, but I see them moving a higher prices guy first.

I doubt you're a Flyers fan since you've apparently forgotten that they've signed Lecavalier to be their second line center and you're looking to trade Brayden Schenn for a depth defenceman. The Flyers aren't going to trade away Schenn for a marginal player. Potential #1 centers are so rare that other teams would offer up much better prospects/players for him.

If the Flyers are looking to trade Schenn, you give them what you want. Heck, I'd love to get both of the Schenn brothers and would offer up Gio + + + to take on both of them and a bad contract.
The Flyers are in a bit of cap trouble, but like a few have pointed out, once Pronger is on the LTIR it will make things a lot easier for them. Still, if there is a way to get some of their younger players, I'd give them what they want.

Since 1967. I was only offering some thought about the possibility of Brayden Schenn being the piece they are willing to move, not actual proposals as they will be looking to move dollars as they are in no better shape next year, with just of $10M to sign at least 9 players. The guys I listed aren't great but their low cap hits and possible ability to fill needs makes if feasible.

Also, as they stated at the press conference introducing Vinny, they are looking at playing him on wing with Giroux. As I stated originally they are possibly looking at Giroux, Couturier with more onus put on him moving up the line up and Laughton as their top 3 centers. Schenn could bring the biggest return now but I don't think the Flyers are looking at adding any additional salaries,
