i sometimes get a laugh out these guys complaining about the course - first off it is the same for all 150 or so of them, secondly, most of them are in the top 100 or so in the world at thier choosen occupation.

Perhaps, they'd be happier if they could go out and card 58's every round.......

good grief!!!

Rory McIlroy carded a 79, his worst ever opening round score in a major. He is now a combined +24 in the majors in 2013.

And to add salt to the wound, he's tied with Nick Faldo.

I disagree to a certain extent- the 1st round leader in the majors almost always comes from the morning wave. Conditions in a major tournament get considerably more difficult in the afternoon as the course gets firmer- especially when the pin positions are tough like they are here. Yes, the morning and afternoon groups get swapped around on the second day, but there is a lot to be said from getting ahead early in the tournament as opposed to needing to play catch up on friday. Shooting well under par on thursday, and then only needing to shoot even or 1 under on friday is much more preferable im sure. I guess the argument is not everyone can play in the morning and it probably isn't fair to water the greens before the afternoon wave.

Tiger's 2 under in the afternoon is probably as good as the 5 unders from the morning.

By the way, has Tiger dropped 10 pounds or so? Maybe trying to return to his skinnier frame ala early 2000s

Plus most guys on tour save their complaining for the Open Championship and links golf. Lots of US players really dislike links golf. Tiger seems to not mind however.

It wasnt only US players complaining...both Ian Poulter and Grahame McDowell were really critical of the greens...and i cant blame them. Hard to be at your best when you play something you dont see all year.

Lee Westwood just hit a drive downwind on 15.....it rolled and rolled and rolled...perfect tee shot and it ended up in a bunker...over 400 yds down the fairway. Impossible to judge at times.

Typically the complaints about the course and pin positions are reserved for the USGA. Usually the issue with the Open Championship is weather. Seems to be a rough day for scoring out there, very few guys under par today.

Would love to grab a beer with Angel Cabrera. Easily my favourite player on tour.

Angel Cabrera is amazing. Almost never see him compete for regular tour events, but he always seems to be lurking at majors. Clutch player who isn't afraid of the moment.

Yeah MAJ is another guy always there it seems. Also Rory is now +12, what a spectacular free fall he's in at the moment. Its all mental with him right now.

Crazy how he is able to fly under the radar until he actually gets out on the golf course. The value is always there for betting. You can get him at 101:1 for basically any major.

His tendency to play on the Euro tour makes him an awesome dark horse. He's pure class and an awesome guy. The fact that he doesn't speak English just adds to his mystique.

Keep smoking and shooting low.

Tiger, Henrik Stenson and Lee Westwood might end up the leaders as the field continues to come back. Only 13 players under par at the moment.

Interestingly Charl Schwartzel has played -4 since he was caught breaking his club on camera yesterday. Proof that all us average hackers have to do is break a club when we're mad and we can turn it around...

Looks like we could be headed to an over par winner. I think anyone who made the cut has a chance, tournament is wide open.

This morning when Snediker was -3 and 21/1 I put $20 on him.

I'm awesome.
