If You Are A Woman, Don't Go To Dubai
Norwegian Woman Jailed For 16 Months In Dubai For Being Raped
Quote:
- Norwegian woman, 25, was in Dubai on a business trip
- She was raped and reported the incident to the police
- At the station, police took her passport and jailed her
- She will now serve 16 months for illicit sex outside marriage
|
Quote:
'I received the harshest sentence for sex outside marriage, harshest sentence for drinking alcohol and on top of that I was found guilty of perjury,’ the woman told Verdens Gang.
|
Quote:
Under UAE law, rapists can only be convicted if either the perpetrator confesses or if four adult Muslim males witness the crime.
|
In the article there is a story about this happening to a 27-year-old Australian woman as well.
In short, if you are female do not ever go to Dubai or the UAE for any reason.

Unfortunately this is not the case.
No extradition.
The Australian woman mentioned in the article served 8 months in jail for her "crime" of being drugged and raped by 3 men.

Wow, just wow. Amazing what a shat-nozzle country that has nothing going for it other than oil can get away with.

Ah, yes. Brain fart.
Perhaps the ETA then?
Well, Dubai risks damaging relations with another oil-producing nation. Not a smart move regardless.

A country thats based on a law system that thinks women are second class citizens (at best) isn't a friendly place for women? I mean its terrible but why anyone, particularly women, even want to go anywhere near a country that in any way involves Sharia Law is beyond me. The basis of law is pretty clear how much it hates women.

Dubai is ######ed ... is tourism really something they want to be risking? That city is a ####ing mirage and I hope it gets swallowed up by the desert again.

Companies in all western countries need to realize that they should not be having business trips or business meetings in the UAE. For any reason.
Both Norwegian woman and Australian woman were both on business trips.

This isn't new. UAE has history of this and it hasn't stopped us, and other western countries, from doing business with them.
I do think that she will get released earlier and then deported. They do that a lot and then claim how humane and generous they are.

Yeah. Alicia Gali, the Australian woman, was sentenced to 12 months and served 8... so this Norwegian woman can expect to serve probably 10-12 months of her 16 month sentence.

So can someone explain to me why it seems like Canadian Oil falls under more scrutiny than Saudi Oil? Environmental issues trump social issues I guess?

Because Western governments are easier to pressure and coerce into changing policy.
