Cesc would still have to agree to a move, so I think it's unlikely they completely block it (especially with Wenger still there)

but if Barca want 30m or something I could see Arsenal asking for a small amount from United to not block it

Ashley Williams made Swansea captain today

likely means he's not going to Arsenal or Liverpool

I'm sure it could be done with some backroom dealings, but any idea whether that is actually allowed?

Moyes wants to move for both Cesc and Fellaini

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2...ouane-fellaini

still think the Cesc link is BS ... Fellaini is an obvious target. I have no problems with buying Fellaini, but only if we get a skillful, playmaking MF as well. I still think Modric would make more sense than Cesc.

I still think it is unlikely that Cesc would agree to move to United but, regardless, Arsenal's position is very strong if what I've read is the truth. In addition to a Buy-Back clause, they also have a clause that would see them take 50% of the portion of a transfer fee over £25m. This is what's probably driving Barca to get as high a fee as possible.

Barca might not even want other clubs to bid for Cesc until he signs a new contract. However, even if a club does submit a suitable bid Arsenal could still hijack the deal with the Buy-Back clause. With Arsenal needing some creativity in the midfield, I think they would jump at the chance of being able to bring Cesc back home... away from home.

Even if Arsenal were not prepared to bring him back, I think they are now in a position where they could play spoilers for other clubs. Why not screw over United?

Its a clause and I know contract clauses can be bought so I think so

United should just get Zlatan & put him in CM.

When Ibby says no, you tell him --- didn't think you could anyway.

Problem solved.

Apparently Man U have turned down an offer of £10 million + Mata or Luiz for Rooney.

Seems like Chelsea may want him a little too badly, thus the rejection knowing they'll add more money to the offer.
Mata + "write your number on this cheque" for Rooney? I like the sounds of that! Not to mention Mata's wages are £150,000 a week less than Rooney's.

Mata was arguably Chelsea's best player last year. I would be sad to see him go.

Chelsea have come out publicly and stated it was a cash only offer, no player exchange.
Mata and Luiz have both been mentioned in transfer rumours lately - Luiz to Barcelona, as a ball-playing defender fits their style, Mata just out in general as he apparently does not fit with Mourinho's system (unless he is played wide). My guess is they were lumped on as a rumour. I can't see Mata being moved to a rival, nor Luiz.
Also Jose is adding fuel to the fire - Rooney or bust - http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/23350316

Could just be posturing, but it does 2 things:
Puts the heat on United, if nothing else, mind games
Reassures the squad he is not looking to find replacements for them (unless your name is Fernando Torres, whom Rooney would arguably replace)

Yeah, fantastic mindgames. We really want him, It's Rooney or bust.
That's sure to put the heat on Utd and drive the price down.

The point isn't to drive the price down. It is to give United a major headache - sell to a rival, deal with a disgruntled player and dressing room distraction, or sell to a team that will not bid as much as Chelsea.

Chelsea have bargaining power. The other big money clubs have made moves
Monaco - Falcao
PSG - Cavani
Man City - Negredo
Barcelona - Neymar.

Real Madrid may be an option if they sell Higuan since they have dropped major cash on their squad this season, but Rooney himself may not want to go abroad, which means it is Chelsea or Arsenal - neither of which look good to United.

Mourinho either gets the player he wants, gets a dangerous player out of the league, or creates a disturbance in the rooms of one of his biggest rivals.

Chelsea have bargaining power?

You miss the simple fact that Utd have what Chelsea want and are currently under no pressure to sell him.

Contractually they do not, but if they intend to hold onto Rooney, they need to go into major damage control. It's a distraction until it is resolved, one way or another
