And of course he has to represent a district with the word "Wood" in it.

Sorry, unless it's a transvestite midget prostitute, how is this even news?

Wildrose is calling for him to leave his seat.

How does this affect his ability to do his job?

Lack of sex will drive him crazy?

It is really just optics. The opposition will jump at any opportunity to try and get the current government to change in hopes that it will open the door for them to get another seat. They'll say that this guy participated in illegal activities so how can the voters trust him to legally and morally represent them.

The news story I heard was that he is going to sit as an independent, but that is not enough for the Wildrose. They must think they have a good chance of taking the seat in a by election.

How to say sorry without admitting guilt? "I truly regret the events that occured."

I think it is more a matter of we (the public in general), hold our elected officials to a higher standard.

We don't have recall legislation, so his constituents can't speak out that way. The next best thing is for him to step down and run again to see if they still support having him as a representative.

I suspect he will step down on his own - once he realizes how much work he has to do on his "homefront" - he won't be able to manage that and the job of an MLA at the same time.

You must phrase all comments in the form of sexual innuendo.

Whatever, I don't care if my MLA snorts coke every weekend off his boyfriend's oiled buttocks, as long as he does his job and represents his constituent's interests ably. Puritanism of that sort is useless and foolish - what are we, Americans?

That's stupid. The oil would make the coke all pasty and un-snort-able.

I don't know. I don't have much, if any of a moral obligation against him paying for sex. But I do think that the people making the laws, judging the laws, and enforcing the laws should have a greater respect for those laws, and be held at a higher standard for following those laws. The fact that this was well out of his jurisdiction probably makes that stance less valid, as does the murkiness of whether this was illegal in Alberta or not.

I'd give him more respect though if he and/or his party had a track record of legalization of prostitution on their platform. Less respect if he has been running on some kind of family values type platform.

We can get into a philosophical discussion about the legality and morality of prostitution.

Aren't some relationships and marriages a form of prostitution? Some women are only with their husbands because they can provide them with a higher standard of living and a weekly stipend or living allowance to buy clothes, nice things etc.
Once a man withdraws these financial stipends sometimes the 'relationship'.
will end.

These gentleman who marry women or enter into relationships with women that are out of their league should be charged with prostitution as well if we follow the same logic of the law "Paying for Sex". But its legal because its a 'committed relationship"

Some of the concerns about prostitution are that women are taken advantage of and controlled by 'pimp's or 'managers'. In these cases, prostitution is certainly not ideal and problematic. However, if Prostitution was made legal and more convenient streams of advertising and coordination were made available to prostitutes or escorts, wouldn't this cut out the middle-man or pimp?

What about lubricant? Water or silicone-based, either way.

I don't care what my MLA does on his own time either, but two things to consider.

1) he was representing Alberta at the time; so his "free time" activities (once publicly known) are impacting his role as a government member.

2) going forward how well will he be able to do his job? This is probably one of the most traumatic events a relationship can be put through. Again this will impact his ability to properly represent his constituents.

Point two is speculation on your part. Perhaps his "relationship' was in the crapper, and that is why he was playing away from home.

Point one, is a bigger issue. I didn't know he was on "official bidniss" at the time.

I'd say it calls his ethical standard into question, although ethics and politics don't really seem to go together anyways.
