Amazing Race Canada
Just a heads up, this starts tonight on CTV.
Hopefully it's not too low budget and provides some mindless Summer entertainment.

There is an existing thread in the contest sub-forum, though it should have it's own thread in the Entertainment forum.
Mods can either merge the two or delete this one.

"THE AMAZING RACE CANADA will provide a uniquely Canadian take on the original series, with competitors discovering the world within the borders of Canada."
If they're only staying in Canada, this is going to suck. I won't be bothering.

Hal Johnson and Joanne McLeod? That is the only "star power" they could dig up?
Joey Jeremiah and Caitlin weren't available?

That I would tune in for .
I'd rather see Caitlan and Spike teaming up though

For sure, I was just trying to keep the guy/girl ratio though.

Ya, I'm betting that the Canadian version will be pretty weak. Only 9 teams? They should have way more.
What level of risk will there be if they just stay in Canada? Half the fun of the show is experiencing the cultures and doing challenges in foreign countries.
Challenges will include:
- Tapping maple trees in Quebec to get syrup
- Building a replica mini drilling rig in Alberta
- Lobster fishing in the maritimes
- Driving a combine in Sask
- Building an igloo in NWT
Still, would be fun to be on the show though!

What a joke...
No contestants from east of Montreal.
I bet the cross Canada tour will start at Halifax and end in Vancouver.

9 teams? They stay in Canada? What an embarrassment.
If you're an Amazing Race fan I highly recommend Australia's Amazing Race, it's about 1.5x more badass than the American one. Challenges are harder (and more dangerous) the skill challenges are hard (with the contestants being just as stupid) and they all have funny accents.

I fully expect the Canadian version to be somewhat better than the US family version (where they stayed almost entirely in the US and had stupid kids with them) but worse than a normal US season. I doubt there will be a season two of the Canadian race.

It seems pretty obvious that the reason they stay in Canada is so it can be a huge advertising campaign. I bet Tourism British Columbia paid plenty of money so the Okanagan could be featured.

I'm looking forward to the episode where it takes Hal and Joanne 20 minutes to explain to the Newfoundland cab driver where they want to go.

So the hometown team is a couple of gay cowboys from rural Alberta. They also managed to stereotype BC with a couple of hippies.

Pretty boring to say the least.
The father son team though is pretty inspirational.

Not bad, but will PVR next week. I forgot how annoying commercial breaks are.
I'll give it another week, only because the most annoying team was eliminated. There's enough teams to keep my interest and cheer for (father and son) and against (d-bag musclehead).

I thought that it was funny when that one guy said "I know who you are, my cousin has been you for Halloween" to Hal and Joanne though.

Can someone please remind me who the Official Airline of The Amazing Race Canada is?
They only had about 15 commercials, but I seem to have forgotten...

I was pretty disappointed that Joanne broke out the "keep fit and have fun" so early in the race and at a fairly mundane moment. It should have been so much better.
Pretty average first episode. It (not surprisingly) followed the American version formula very closely, which has become a little tiresome for the last few iterations anyway. I'll keep watching because I'm curious to see how it will pan out, but I fully expect that it will continue to be just like the US version, but with Canadians, in Canada.
And the commercials and product placement were certainly in overdrive. I guess that's a necessary evil.

You don't PVR everything?
I PVR every show I watch. Even the news. I'll watch it about 15 minutes later so I can FF the commercials and news stories I don't want to watch
The only thing I don't PVR is sports. Can't seem to ever watch live sports on tape delay
