Icon38 Hextall goes back to Philly

Given the title of Assistant GM and Director of Hockey Operations. Obviously he is the heir apparent when Holmgren steps down/gets fired.

Philly really are desperate for a new goalie.

Interesting, basically a lateral move. Clearly his ties to the Flyer organization trump all.

He likely could've gone to Philly when they fire/Holmgren steps down, and not been part of the situation, however that's going to turn out, in the mean time.

Good move for Philly. Young GM prospect with ties to the organization. I would curious to see what player moves he was involved with during his time with the kings

It's possible Holmgren will make a Kevin Lowe move upstairs in the near future and that Hextall is doing on the job training to eventually assume the GM duties.

I guess that's an option, though he could be considered part of the problem/group think under Holmgren.

On a related note, not surprisingly, not a peep from the Flames about additions to their front office since Shanahan turned them down 4 weeks ago.

That Shanahan hiring was what IMO Edwards was banking on, and that was really the only option in his mind at this point to get some new blood in there.

Perhaps it was Edwards thinking enough of Shanahan to create a spot for him? Who knows.

However, there are additional rumors with Colin Campbell being interviewed as well. Haven't heard any other rumors surrounding that position at all.

Probably not a peep because Edwards probably tailored the job specifically for Shanahan. I wouldn't be surprised if there are no additions of this sort made as he probably only really had one guy in his sights.

I watched KK in an interview just before the draft, and he said they had a bunch more guys on their list for the job. He said he wanted the job to be filled well before training camp starts.

I have no idea who is on the list, but if they are "name guys" and the position is just a "listening board" type of position, they might have some trouble.

As for Hextall this is a good move. No chance he was going to be taking over for Lombardi any time soon.

Think the flood, draft, and free agency have likely stalled the Flames search for a new front office addition.
