They haven't, but then again neither has Sony. To date there has been no verified claim of credit card fraud as a result of the hack.

Unlike with Xbox Live, my credit card never saw unauthorized charges when PSN was hacked. My credit card was charged for $250+ of Fifa 13 purchases through Xbox Live, however. (And I don't own a single sports game for the 360!)

For those of you still thinking the Kinect won't be used to spy on you or hoping MS would start addressing other user concerns, think again. Microsoft has unveiled plans to integrate kinect with their advertising on Xbox Live, profile users and deliver targeted ads.

^^ that article doesn't technically say Kinect will do anything more than what we've been told though.

@Russic: You're right. And colour me surprised someone has jumped to yet another unfounded conclusion despite that.

"Microsoft plans to integrate Kinect into XBL advertising." --- does not automatically lead to the conclusion ---> "Therefore, the Kinect/Microsoft will always be spying on you."

If the story outlined that the Kinect was feeding results back to MS about your facial reactions while watching the Super Bowl commercials, I could see people having serious problems. This is pretty bland in comparison though.

I pre-purchased the XBox One for Forza 5 and I picked up Ryse (regretting it now after the gameplay comments). I didn't know about this whole "Kinect is watching you" debacle but can you just put some tape or something over it to not watch you?

If the game you're playing uses the camera though you'll be removing that tape enough that it could get fiercely annoying. Don't forget, it's not actually always "watching" you, it's always listening for key phrases. I think if you're concerned about your privacy to the point that you're going to be putting tape on your system, it might be reasonable to look at other systems.

For those that wanted what the Xbone 180 was giving you originally, there is a petition to sign. Over 16,000 names already (15,000 of them Sony employees perhaps? )

http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/07/...x-one-policies

In a petition on change.org, organizer David Fontenot asks Microsoft to “give us back the Xbox One we were promised at E3.”

“This was to be the future of entertainment,” the petition says. “A new wave of gaming where you could buy games digitally, then trade, share or sell those digital licenses. Essentially, it was Steam for Xbox. But consumers were uninformed, and railed against it, and it was taken away because Sony took advantage of consumers uncertainty. We want this back. It can't be all or nothing, there must be a compromise.”

Not surprising with Microsoft being the first major company to sign up for the NSA Prism program. "Legally compelled to comply" - wonder how much they even bothered to push back.

Revealed: how Microsoft handed the NSA access to encrypted messages

http://m.guardian.co.uk/world/2013/j...tion-user-data

• Microsoft helped the NSA to circumvent its encryption to address concerns that the agency would be unable to intercept web chats on the new Outlook.com portal;

• The agency already had pre-encryption stage access to email on Outlook.com, including Hotmail;

• The company worked with the FBI this year to allow the NSA easier access via Prism to its cloud storage service SkyDrive, which now has more than 250 million users worldwide;

• Microsoft also worked with the FBI's Data Intercept Unit to "understand" potential issues with a feature in Outlook.com that allows users to create email aliases;

• In July last year, nine months after Microsoft bought Skype, the NSA boasted that a new capability had tripled the amount of Skype video calls being collected through Prism;

ACLU technology expert Chris Soghoian said the revelations would surprise many Skype users. "In the past, Skype made affirmative promises to users about their inability to perform wiretaps," he said. "It's hard to square Microsoft's secret collaboration with the NSA with its high-profile efforts to compete on privacy with Google."

Man, if only there was something a company could do to help explain what their system is about and what it does...

I wish I was as enlightened as these people.

I assume because the XBox One is supposed to have more integration with apps like Skype, which could fall under the PRISM program.

Speaking of which today:

Microsoft: ‘Shame on Us’ for Xbox One Messaging

http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/07/...-one-messaging

In an interview with IGN, Whitten lamented Microsoft’s back-and-forth messaging since May, admitting that the company still has a lot to work on when it comes to communicating with consumers.

On the subject of the removed Family Sharing feature, we asked Whitten if any kind of road map is in place to restore the ability to share your digital library with family and friends.

“I probably should have been more clear,” Whitten said about his comments the day the feature was removed. “We took some feedback and realized there was some stuff we needed to add to the program. To add it to the program, we had to make room, just from a pure engineering perspective, to be able to get that work done. So taking Family Sharing out of the launch window was not about ‘we’re going to take our toys and go home’ or something like that.
