Don't really like this. Maybe if they can get rid of Jackman I'll be OK with re-signing Begin, but honestly, I'd rather they steer clear of Begin.

At least this thing is just a rumour.

I don't see how it could hurt but i don't see how it can help either. If it happened i'd post the Futurama neutral video i guess.

That said, he'll be a positive presence in the locker room and training room as he gives it 100% all the time.
This is such nonsense. The Oilers brought in plenty of character older guys that made 0 difference.

Ryan Smyth ring a bell? Steve Staios? The Oilers are just a terribly managed team.

Bantha fodder? I guess they need some warm bodies but surely there are better options than raiding the geriatric ward.

Begin testing the market after the offer: pure class. Way to repay the only team that gave him a look, and probably the only team crazy enough to sign him this year.

That was just last season. The 3 years prior they had nobody, when arguably they could've used it most. The only vet that was a leader type in those years was Vandermeer, and coincidentally their only young D-man at the time (Smid) actually developed into a decent player. You need players that have the right work ethic in order for the other young players to learn those habits. Begin does give 100% all the time (if he didn't, he wouldn't be still playing)

Wrong again. Ryan Smyth was brought in two seasons ago and they finished second worst in the NHL.

Ryan Smyth is one of the biggest character guys in the NHL and didn't make a difference. I think the guys who are citing "character" are really over estimating how much of a difference a Begin would make. Character guys are fine but not when they're terrible on the ice.

I do not think that Calgary needs to keep him. I would much rather see younger guys come in and play

Well he's not signed right now, and Conroy has said it is unlikely that they sign any more UFAs. So I don't see it happening.

Begin repaid the team that gave him a look by playing well all season. If the Flames' offer was 2-way, it is totally reasonable for an older guy who doesn't want to end up in the AHL to look for a 1-way deal.

I agree. I do not think he is needed here, but I do think he still brings some value to an NHL team. I really see no need for the disrespect some people are giving him. He was fine for the role he had.

Maybe its just me, but i think Conroy was talking about signing UFA's to one way conracts. By all accounts, it looks like Begin is being offered a 2 way contract. I don't think Begin qualifies to what Conroy was talking about.

The Butler and this rumoured signing make no sense what so ever. Why would you waste a roster spot on a 4th line plug when anyone from the farm can do the same thing. Why sign Kris Russel and re-sign Butler?!? They play the same style of game.

As good as Feaster has been at drafting, he's bad at contract management. How much money did he have sitting on the bench last year for over 20 games?

I thought he was supposed to be an expert at contract management and bad at drafting?
