Knight has done zero in the league so far if he comes in and flops then it certainly isn't an A+ deal. He isn't a sure fire prospect and although he is older than most guys coming in there are still a lot of question marks about what he will end up being.

I wonder how much this move is trying to get bigger to go against a team like the Kings. Person seems the better player, but St.Louis must have decided they can lose a smaller skilled winger for a bigger guy. Even if Person is a scrappy player.

This trade amounts to essentially shuffling the deck. Perron is a few years ahead in development but I see this trade as a wash as MPS will do well with a change of scenery.

And this goes to show how much 'name power' affects fans. That and people are just way too eager to award winners and losers in deals.

Love MPS, it was just too bad he never got a chance to excel with all those other top over picks going ahead of him. Hopefully he gets the chance in St. Louis.

Also gives me a reason to one day get his jersey in a blues Uniform instead of an Oilers.

Not a bad trade for the Oil. But the focus should be on defence and in net.

Let's not get crazy. MacT just dealt away one of his best assets for trade and did not address a major need on the roster. Pretty good job is very arguable.

By 'best assets for trade' I assume you are referring to Pajaarvi?

If so, what do you think they could have gotten for him because, IMO he doesn't have much value.

I've seen him listed consistently at 6', but depending on the site he is anywhere from 180 - 205 lbs. Either way, from what I've seen he is not exactly soft and one-dimensional.

Really good trade from the Oilers' perspective. St. Louis gets a decent return, but it's heavily dependent on how Paajarvi responds, rebounds, and develops with the Blues.

MPS still has promise and a high celing but he has disappointed and even regressed his last 2 seasons and is flirting with bust status. He has more potential but he's got to show it soon.

As of now, this trade is a win for the Oilers but if MPS takes any significant steps to becoming the player Oilers fans hoped he can be, this deal will flip the other way. And given the team that MPS is going to, there's reason to think he could start to realize his potential soon.

Hmm, I don't really think so...If anything, he's been rather disappointing his last 2 seasons after a promising rookie year.

I think so.

He had a very good rookie year, was just abysmal last year but was improved this year. He didn't look as afraid this year going to the net as other the previous year, where he also looked just flat out lost.

Not saying he is going to be a star but IMO he's back on track after last year compared to 2011-2012.

He had a couple good stretches last year but I do agree he has been a disappointment. After seeing him play in the WJC and the flashes his rookie year I thought he would have made the jump to the NHL a lot better then he has. Whether that is on him or the way the Oilers have tried to develop him is probably up for debate. Being only 22 I think he still has a chance to turn into something and that the change of scenery will do him good.

I think it was a good trade for both teams. Oilers get the better player right now and STL gets cap relief, a player with potential, and a second round pick. In three years the scales may shift to STL.

Honestly, it's not up for debate. He wasn't physically ready for the NHL and it caught up to him rather quickly. We'll see if he continues to rebound in St. Louis but it's not a for sure thing.

Agreed he had some good stretches last year but that is a big improvement from 2011-2012 were he had none and looked like a lost puppy.

Love this trade. Keep in mind Perron is only 3 years older then magnus. If Perron can stay healthy I think he could put up some big numbers as a oiler.

I think MPS will excel in St Louis. If there was a team I would pick that he could turn his career around, it would be the Blues. I think he will fit right into their defensive system, and start generating more offence. Good gamble for the Blues I think.

Perron is a good player but it just seems weird the Oilers would use assets on acquiring another small-ish skilled player for their top 6 rather than acquire a defence man or some true toughness up front.

All they did was sign Ference, who is a good complimentary player, but is old and will only decline now.

No doubting Perron is good but I just don't think they addressed their most glaring needs. Defence, toughness and Goaltending.

I don't understand how a team with 3 straight 1st overall picks and so much talent blows as bad as the Edmonton Oilers and I'm not saying this as a calgarian or flames fan I would rather see canadian teams succeed over Dallas Florida places where hockey dosent belong but the oilers have been rebuilding since 1990 and they need to add pieces for playoff hockey
