Correct my lines OilFan... but I think Perron really helps round out their top 6.
Gordon is a faceoff/defensive specialist. He plays center.

Hall-RNH-Eberle
Perron-Gagner-Yakupov
Smyth-Gordon-Hemsky
Joensuu/Brown-Lander-Jones
Eager

Hemsky will be moved though so they need a 3rd line RW.

This is how I picture Perron when he hears the news:

Spoiler!

I mean Perron is a big upgrade on Paajarvi, but I thought Paajarvi is exactly part of the core in the bottom 6 with his strong defensive play, size and added grit last season. This is just a step backwards personnel wise. Anyone see Perron play? Is his similar to a Brad Marchand type or Sam Gagner? If he brings an agitating game, then I will like this trade.
Ummm, wtf?

Hate to say it, but great trade by the Oilers. Perron is not one dimensional. This trade makes them better today and thats what the Oilers need. This team needs to take that next step more than anybody.

Maybe "OilFan#81" has some input but it sounded like MPS has been on the block for over a year. The 2nd round pick means nothing to the Oilers considering all the high end talent they have gathered over the years. This is the kind of trade Tambellini should have made last year.

Have you ever watched David Perron play? Oh that's right you said you haven't. He's not a soft player at all.

I like Paajarvi and he will do well in St.Louis. He will get better. But this is a great trade for the Oilers.

I think this is a case of the 2/10 would not bang meme nerd..

Haven't seen the Flames make an obvious-win trade like this one is for the Oilers for a long time. I miss that.

Perron is a great addition to the Oilers. I have to wonder if Feaster made a pitch for him.

I'll readily admit that I don't watch much of these other players, so I'll have to go off of stats for last year.

Perron doesn't hit too much, doesn't block shots, was 9th amongst forwards in SH TOI on the Blues (8th if you don't count Langenbrunner's 4 games), middle of the road +/- for the team, doesn't take faceoffs (and was bad the few he took), doesn't fight.

Paaaajarvi might be the better player starting this coming season.

he averages 1 hit per game.

Paajarvi will be a very good 2-way 3rd line winger. If he isn't one already

MPS is been very average thus far in his NHL career...surprised he got the return he did.

Good trade for the Oilers. Not sure if they are a playoff team next season, but they should be much better than they have been for the last 4 seasons.

That's a good deal for Edmonton. MPS isn't that good and a 2nd rounder is almost just a lottory ticket. I'd trade that for a legitimate NHL player like Perron if I thought my team was ready to become a contender.

I think this offseason has pretty much signalled that the Oilers think their time starts now.

doesn't make him a soft player; he goes into the hard areas; takes hits to make plays; goes to the net

thanks, knowing his playing style makes this move more tolerable.

This is a solid move by the Oilers. Man I hate when they do smart things. Anyone calling him soft hasn't watched him play, he is not soft. He plays in the high traffic areas and isn't afraid to take the puck to the net. He has very good hands and some highlight reel goals on his resume already. He is also very responsible defensively. He also had one of the goals of the year for the entire league in 2009, see below:

if there is one think Paajarvi was really flawed at, it's that he couldn't ever drive to the net.
