I know a lot of posters think that we are going to have a bunch of prospects in the lineup to start the season but more than likely it will not be that way. I don't see a team taking on Cammi at $6 million for just a pick. Not sure if they would trade Stempniak in the summer for a 3rd/4th when they can get a 2nd for him at the deadline?
Also as much as Feaster might like to say there is a competition, 99% of the time a one way contract beats out a 2 way contract. Once camp starts trades are near impossible to make even if a 2way beats out a one way contract. I remember a couple of sesaons ago when Byron was called up and played like a spark plug. When he was sent down Feaster said he would do everything he could to get him back up as soon as possible. I don't think we saw Byron for the next 3 months. Thats because trades are hard to do before February.

I agree with you for the most part. Only thing I can't see happening is Cammalleri playing Center this season. They have an abundance of Centers now, no reason to move him off of the wings anymore.

1) injuries - it is actually pretty shocking how few times in a given year that the top 12 lines up as the top 12. At any given time, there are typically 2 or 3 - and sometimes as many as 5 or 6 - substitutes in the lineup
2) McGrattan will not play every night
3) if any of the young guys play so well that they simply have to be in the lineup, other guys will be shipped out to make room. For instance, if Monahan is one of the best 4 Cs in camp, he will be in the lineup.
There is plenty of room for the kids who earn a chance

Personally I think Monohan could be better off with another year in the OHL, and Reinhart could benefit from playing a year split between the NHL & AHL. McGrattan won't be playing every night so there's room for Baertschi on the roster, and who knows how Bouma is recovering from his knee injury so maybe there's room for Horak there.

A big veteran center that can play top 6 would really balance this roster.

If Sven is on the roster, he had better not be playing 4th line minutes. I would prefer he stay in the AHL if that was the case. You don't keep him up just to keep him on the roster, the kid needs to play.

Depending on more moves and where they play Galiardi, I see a dogfight for a centre spot between Monohan, Horak, Reinhart and Knight with Street having a shot too.

What makes you think he won't be manning our first or second line? The kid is obviously ready for the NHL, he proved that at the end of the season.

i think some folks are going to be let down at the deadline. I see a lot of 'Stempniak for a 2nd' and 'Cammalleri for a 2nd'....
I hope we can get these types of returns, but i am not banking on it.

I think the big reason the Flames aren't bringing in Raymond is because they have Sven slotted in the first or second line left wing spot. He will be getting lots of minutes.
I think our younger players projected to slot in the bottom half of the roster would probably be better suited playing lots of minutes in the AHL while being brought in a couple times during the season for an incentive. This next season is going to be a right off with significant progress to be made the following season. No need to waste a ELC year on players for this up and coming season if you do not have to (regarding 2013 draftees).

does anyone else feel like it would be beneficial to part ways with blair jones? I have never really seen much in him, and he is taking space from more talented prospects who could get time in the big league

Out of the veterans on the roster guys like Cammalleri, Stempniak, Stajan, Jones, Jackman could all be moved before or during the season.. which losing any of them would open up roster spots. Also, a team never plays 100% healthy, there will be plenty of opportunity for the young guys to step up.

I was really impressed with Cundari for the few games we seen him at the end of last season. Kind of reminded me of Gio - before he went to Russia. Just has a fire that stands out in all aspects of his game. He can skate, he can play with the puck and he can play a physical brand as well. I hope he can show more of that at camp and make the club to start the season.
I just really hope that the flames do not give spots to guys because of a 1-way contract. We need to have a true competition for the availabe spots. That is how a team gets better.

Here is how I have it. Remember that many of our lw have also played rw, most forwards have no problem moving to the other wing.
Cammalleri/Monahan/Hudler
Baertchi/Stajan/Stempniak
Glencross/Backlund/Jones
Galiardi/Knight/Jackman
Big Mac
When Feaster said he wanted to draft a guy who can step right in I believe him and I think Monahan can and will.
Wideman/Gio
Brodie/SOB
Cundari/Butler
Russell
Ramo
McDonald

Other than our desperate need for a top centre, we desperately need a good face off winning, pk specialist, smart 4th line centre like Yelle. I thought with his size, work ethic and decent hands that Blair jones could have been that guy but I don't think Hartley likes him. Maybe it could be Knight

I think the Flames have too many players. I hate it year after year they open training camp with 20+ one way deals. They might as well put up a sign in the Heat dressing room that says YOU GUYS DON'T HAVE CHANCE.
I hate the Hudler and Wideman signings a little bit more every day.
Glencross..............Stajan..................Ste mpniak
Hudler..................Backlund...............Cam malleri
D Jones.................B Jones................Jackman
Galliardi......................................... ..Mcgratton
Giordano...........Wideman
Brodie...............Russel
Smith................O'Brien
Butler
Macdonald
Rammo
Not suggesting lines or anything just listing all of the one way deals for 13/14.
Unless moves are made only one opening night spot available for the likes of Baertschi, Bouma, Rienhart, Hanowski, Street, Breen, Horak, Cundari, Nemisz, Granlund, Wotherspoon, Street, Berra.
Oh, nevermind, Apparantly Corban Knight was recruited by being promised time in the NHL whether he earns it or not (if that is true i can't think of a better way to breed a loser mentality) so sorry guys. No spots open, I guess if you are a Flames prospect you have to hope for injuries or try it again next year.

I see things as:
Cammalleri - Stajan - D Jones/Stempniak
Glencross - Backlund - Hudler
Baertschi - Knight - Stempniak/D Jones
Galiardi - Horak/Reinhart - Jackman
McGrattan
Giordano - Wideman
Brodie - O'Brien
Butler - Russell
Cundari
Breen
MacDonald
Ramo
I wasn't previously aware that Galiardi can also play centre. If that is the case, I guess he would move up to the third line between Baertschi and Jones/Stempniak, then Knight moves down to take Horak's place, or opens the season with the Heat. Bouma will likely start on the farm along with Nemisz, Byron, Hanowski, and Street. I would not be shocked to see the Flames carry 8 defencemen to start the season. Also, man is Jackman ever redundant on this team now with Bouma, Knight, Horak, Hanowski...plenty of kids that could likely do as good a job as the 4th line fill-in when McGrattan isn't in the line-up.
