I should be at every single session of every day of camp. If you want to say "howdy," I should be wearing a CJSW jacket for most days of the session. Maybe a Mets hat, as well.
I'll be there as well. Not every day, probably only on Saturday and Monday.
I won't bother trying to describe myself... so here's a pic!
30 teams and only 10 of them have a top #1 center?. this is the most over used "wants" in hockey.
Who exactly are the top 10 centers in the league? Is Toews a top 10 because his team won twice in the last few years, what about H Sedin who can't do squat in the playoffs but scores a tonne in the regular season. Top 10 centers are the flavor of the season, I'll be happy just to be able to call a player a #1 on the Flames.
Don't really want to pollute a prospect thread, but being 11th in the league in points per game in the playoffs over the last half decade is "not doing squat"?
With regards to Monahan, the OP is correct that he doesn't really project to be a top 10 offensive guy (Crosby, Stamkos, Datsyuk, Tavares, etc.), but more of a top end 2 way guy who can play in all situations and thrive in tough minutes. And there's nothing wrong with that at all. Some might argue that a guy like that is more valuable than a pure offensive player.

Wow. Reading that list there's at least 15 prospects I'm excited about. Seems like not too long ago that Mitch Wahl, Matt Pelech, and Greg Nemisz were some of the most exciting names in camp. I'm pretty happy w/ the prospect pool the Flames have. Obviously, it could still be better, but its come a long way.

Also a reminder of how few of the prospects pan out. I do think we've drafted better recently, so there is definitely room for increased optimism.
On that pessimistic note, I wonder if this is Howse's last shot at it. I'll be interested to read the reports to see if he has taken strong initiative this off-season.
Chad Billins’ equipment has barely dried from the sweat — or maybe it’s the champagne — of a Calder Cup championship run.
So it’s hard to criticize the Calgary Flames’ latest acquisition if he’s not ready to return to the ice just yet.
Only three weeks removed from a championship run with the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins, the 24-year-old blueliner won’t attend the Flames’ development camp later this week at WinSport’s Markin MacPhail Centre.
“They invited me, and I want to come, but I just didn’t feel like I was physically prepared,” Billins said. “It was a long season, and to jump back right into it when we’ve only been done for a few weeks … they understood.”

I'm guessing they didn't understand as much as he thinks they did. Even with a somewhat reasonable excuse, that's probably not a great first impression to make on your new employer.
Maybe he's injured? Wouldn't be the first time a player played through the playoffs with a nagging injury and needs time to rest. Playing at less than 100% is probably not the best way to make that first impression with his employer, either.

I'm guessing the Flames know full well about how the body needs to recover after a grinding playoff run. Not to mention that he isn't an 18-year-old getting his first look at a pro camp. The Flames didn't sign him for a four day camp in July. They signed him to fill a spot with the Heat in October.

Excited to see some of the guys we don't see that much of.
We see the guys like Monahan, Gaudreau, Baertschi, Sieloff, etc often, either on TV or via highlight packages. We mostly know what we are getting with them.
The other guys though, the mid-tier prospects like Culkin, Granlund, DeBlouw, Kulak are who I am interested to see and you hope that some of them stand out.
Harrison is the one guy that intrigues me here, interested to see why our scout was so adamant that they should pick this kid.
Jankowski is the other name as well to see how he has progressed. Last year I remember he was a little behind to start but you could really see him start to match the level of the other top prospects as the week went on. Hopefully his year of development really shines through. Interesting that him and Monahan are only a month apart, could be a good 1-2 punch down the middle for this team in the future.
Will probably hit up both scrimmages if I can find the time.
