I tried that launcher. While it certainly is neat looking and actually quite responsive and snappy, there is just way too much going on for my taste. I like the minimalist approach.

However it led me to Next Browser, which I quite like so far.

I think I found the most awesome app ever...

Spam callers offering me untold riches, car warranties, and vacations used to drive me crazy. iOS wouldn't let me screen callers (thought I understand iOS 7 lets you do this - but doesn't open up the Phone App itself to other Apps) and this always drove me nuts.

Mr Number (terribly cheesy name) lets you automatically screen calls so that known spam numbers go silent. It appears to have some shared "known spammer" capabilities so other users can grow the database of spam numbers. Worked pretty well today, picking up a spam caller from Michigan and Montreal.

Free app to boot - what's not to like?

The new Gmail app is horrible. Uninstalled.

I think all email apps like that are kind of junk except the stock Android/HTC email app. Since it supports Exchange, Gmail, Yahoo, etc. I steer clear of those clunky, cutesy mail apps that are part of Yahoo and Gmail.

K-9 just released a new update that I like a lot better than the previous version. The UI is a lot better/less clunky

Anyone use Hangouts? Talk about the worst messaging app ever. I honestly don't even get what Google is trying to do. Is it supposed to be a competitive product for WhatsApp, BBM and others? Because it really isn't. All they did was take Google Talk and removed the ability to set your status.

At this point WhatsApp is fine, and BBM will be great when it eventually comes out, but I really use Facebook Messenger a lot. It works very well. Only issue is sometimes it shows people as being active when they're not. It does however show when they were last active, which is a feature I love, plus it has a great 'sent' and 'seen' feature.

Easy to send pictures, fast....what more do you want? Google should take note. Hangouts sucks. They don't even have SMS integration.

Is anybody using Tapatalk 4? I am still using the previous version, but whenever an update for Tapatalk 4 comes out, I give it a try but it's just not growing on me. Are there any improvements that would make it worth using more regularly?

I've been using it for a couple months now and I quite enjoy being able to swipe between pages.
The lefthand menu bar could be a lot better but navigating is the big reason why I still use it.

I gave it another try, but I guess it is really a user preference type of deal. Maybe it's my settings, but my "participated" threads that have recent posts aren't highlighted, the user interface doesn't seem to have inherited some of the Calgarypuck schemes, like the previous version either. It would be nice if the developer updated the tags feature so spoilers, nsfw, bold, etc. etc. worked properly.

There was just an update that I hadn't noticed, thanks and spoilers are now working though tags are still missing.

I noticed this as well. It's nice to see in the original Tapatalk that they added the "originally posted by" feature when posts are quoted.

Any recommendations for a good offline navigation app? I am planning a few road trips to the states, and don't really want to turn on my data connection to use Google Nav to find my way around. It seems the highest rated ones are Sygic, CoPilot, and Navfree. Any reason to use one over the other, and are there any other better ones out there besides these 3?

Thanks.

Sygic is absolutely amazing. It finds your location so quickly, and you can do things like search for points of interest near you, etc.

I haven't used the other ones.

I am playing around with Sygic and Navfree. Sygic is definitely winning so far, at least in my minimal testing so far. Can't get a demo of CoPilot though, unfortunately.

The big thing I need is just to be able to type in the address or name of business and have it generate a route, and be able to integrate with my calendar.

Edit: Sygic doesn't seem to be able to locate calendar events very well. It was able to find "Southland Leisure Centre" when I typed it in, but coming from the calendar it just shows streets with "Southland" in the name.

Speaking of Sygic, looks like it's 30% off when you enter 1458554694429 as a discount code.

Source.

Thanks. I am going to play around with it a bit longer before commiting. So far, so good.. except the time it told me to go left, when clearly the correct way to go was right. Maybe to do with landscape vs. portrait modes on the phone and how north is oriented. Maybe there is something with the settings, but I noticed that with Google Navigation it clearly shows when I am on an off-ramp next to, say, Deerfoot. Whereas Sygic still thinks that I am on Deerfoot and gets all panicky with the directions.

This probably won't replace Google Nav whilst my data service isn't roaming, but once I hit the states, I am sure it will be indispensable.

What are the benefits of using a 3rd party navigation app vs the basic navigation that comes with Android OS?
